Not that this has anything to do with anything but, different political solutions to a lack of jobs:
Socialism: The people need jobs, let's hire 100 workers to shovel dirt up and down the road.

Classical Liberals: Let's hire 50 people to actually build a road.
Libertarians: The market will dictate when workers and roads are needed.
Communists: Supplies are low, have KGB kill 99 men and have remaining 1 man build road with corpses.
Conservatives: Government programs are a liberal agenda, we need more tax cuts and more patriotic Americans out spending money, not shoveling dirt or building roads.
Neoconservatives: We need to blow up a road then pay my contracting company ten times the normal amount to rebuild it and do all the work with slave labor/whatever poor brown people happen to be in the area at the time.
well you see the problem with the motivation argument is that is should work the same way for capitalism. a significant amount of those in who control government and the economy were born into wealthy families - that is to say, they do not really have to do anything with their lives, just as, supposedly, someone in a socialist society would not. but obviously they spend quite a deal of effort and time in the persuit of doing things they feel are worth doing. so certainly the same would hold for communism.Quote:

Yes, but if a person who is a doctor is getting paid the same as a garbage man, what in that persons mind is stopping him from dropping his job to become a garbage man (besides the odors)? It may persuade them to do what they want, but in todays society one would be more concerned with their salary rather than what they want to persue.Quote:

if you were getting paid the same would you honestly rather be a garbage man? im sure nobody would. they would rather be a doctor because it is a more glamorous job and carries a great deal of respect and you dont have to haul stinking trash all over the place all day.
besides its silly to say that money leads people to the direction of vocations that are more socially productive. money leads a lot of people to the direction of being financial derivatives salesmen rather than electrical engineers, or carpenters, or biochemists.

- That may be true, but again, we live in a society filled with slackers. I rarely see anyone with a good job that pays well and likes it. What if we where to give those people the freedom to pick their own jobs? Those potential CEO's are now living it up as waiter and garbage men simply because they don't have to worry about what they do.
- well its clear that most people want to go to college as a means of personal fulfillment and whatnot. look at all the worthless degrees out there. people want to do things that they find interesting, plenty of people consider being a doctor and interesting thing to do and something they would enjoy. in fact it would be more financially feasible for people to become doctors in any type of socialist/communist society.

- every waiter and garbage man works much harder than your average ceo. i cant think of a more braindead and useless job in the world than that of a ceo. a garbage man is a million times more productive for society. anyone could be a ceo, but to be a garbage man you at least have to be a hard worker with the character to not complain about doing unpleasant things.
In reality I think you'll find that both jobs are difficult in their own way. You don't rise to become head of a diesel fuel injector manufacturer without knowing something about manufacturing and designing diesel fuel injectors, and that requires both experience and intelligence. I'm not saying that that person is somehow 'better' than the refuse disposal operative, I'm just saying it's not as easy as God is claiming it is. And it is an important job, because without high quality diesel fuel injectors you wouldn't have efficient transport networks.
I think if we introduced democracy into capitalism, and stop ceo's and business executives from robbing the workers of their deserved pay, we could see a brighter future. By giving them a voice in the regulation of the companies, we would have a much more sound economy.
I think if people stopped bitching and learned to work the system like every other human being that's succeeded in a capitalist market we'd all be on a much more level playing field.
