I think its funny how there's a type for normal pokemon. That's basically calling all the other types "freaks of nature" which they would be in our world, but not the pokemon world.

Not normal type but a normal animal. As oppose to lets say Pidgeot which is a 6ft tall pidgeon.
Since they have no supernatural powers it makes them normal, and therefore "natural". Yes they'd be abnormally huge, but it doesn't make them outcasts to the natural world. Some animals grow larger than others.

Kirby, in the real world a pidgey wouldn't even be classified as a pigeon. It's a different species for god's sake. There are plenty of large birds out there like the ostrich, so my first thought seeing a pidgey would be " damn, I think it's time to eat", not " HOLY COW, THAT BIRD ISN'T NORMAL, IT'S AS BIG AS AN OSTRICH, NOT NORMAL GUYS, BECAUSE OSTRICHES AREN'T NORMAL."
