Black & White Starters, Legendaries, Region Revealed

Pokemon USA recently revealed the English names of the Pokemon Black & White starters, <a href="/pokerep/pokemon/snivy">Snivy</a>, <a href="/pokerep/pokemon/tepig">Tepig</a>, and <a href="/pokerep/pokemon/oshawott">Oshawott</a>, as well as the two legendary Pokemon <a href="/pokedex/pokemon/reshiram">Reshiram</a> and <a href="/pokedex/pokemon/zekrom">Zekrom</a>. We also now know that the region name is "Unova" in English, whereas it was "Isshu" in Japanese. This is the first time the Japanese region name was completely renamed for the English version.

Speaking of renaming, I have updated the <a href="/pokedex/?display=unova">Pokedex</a> (which had always been "PokeRep" up till about an hour ago) with the latest names and pictures of these new Pokemon, so check them out!

If anyone cares, they switched it to Unova in the English version because they assumed pokemon fans know Latin.

Isshu means "one diversity/variety" and Nintendo of America was like 'Well, we like that idea. Can we find an English equivalent to that?'

Apparently not, but they probably looked at the US motto of E pluribus unum (Out of many, One) and thought it was good enough. Or, you know, they probably thought they were being clever with this: Uno (one) Va (variety).
Or people like to think it's UNited States OF America.

When I get Black: I will chosoe Snivy. When I get White: I will choose Oshawatt. I think they are all cute, except the English names sound a little stupid.

the english names are an abomination

Snivy reminds of the word "Snivelly".

Its not like the english names are any easier on the tongue then the originals.

Totally agree Sinvy is a shit name, but he's a damn right sight better then a giant pig and a.. I dont even know what the other thing is.
