I should invent a laptop that has an easily accessible fan that I can clean without literally taking the whole thing apart. I would have an underside panel labelled "fan" with four screws.
This is where I prefer desktops, just slide a side panel off and I have instant access to the fans.
Yeah, not a fan of that either.

I wish there was a laptop thats fan didn't need cleaning.... as long as it was regularly used.... OH WAIT (thats 90% of new laptops)

Ive never cleaned my computer honestly, most of my computers die before that time. I don't think my laptop even has a fan anymore, I think the blades fell off and slowly got worn away as I heard something knocking around inside my computer for months.
I have heard though that a good way to clean a computer is to simply take a vacuum to the vents / fan and suck the dust out. I haven't really done this, but it sounds good in theory.
Yeah, I could have used an air compressor too, I just like to deep clean once a year by taking a cloth to the fan and heatsink and wiping them down; an air compressor may not do as through as a job. It just sucks that I have to take the whole damn computer apart just to get to it. That's like having to take off the dashboard and seats of a car to get to the engine.

Also, i've had many many computers. I had one computer for 3 years, never cleaned its fan once. I've had multiple 2 year+ computers(and i use computers non stop every day) so.... I don't understand what you mean, by cleaning your fan.
Just because you don't clean it doesn't mean you don't need to do it. Sorry that I like to take care of my things.

If you buy a new computer every two years, sure. But I don't have the means to do that. I have to have this computer last for at least my years through college and probably even a year after that until I get a job where I can support myself enough to be able to buy a new computer. If it was possible, I would replace the parts of my latop as needed, but that is also a hassle compared to a desktop.

Are you talking about laptops or desktops?
Laptops break by the time changing a fan would matter ANYWAYS which was my point...
DESKTOPS (which is what you now mentioned) need to clean their fans alot, because they really filtrate air through the whole computer. I'de say once every 6 months i un dust my desktop fan. Its super easy to, you just remove the base plate and take a little cleany thingy that you keep in the bathroom, or a towel and mop up all the dust.

i replaced my fan when it broke but i never cleaned it. when i took the old fan out it was fairly clean actually.
Laptops break if you don't take care of them, IE not cleaning them or keeping them on a dirty surface like a couch or bed.Quote:
