Need help building my team!

I just started Pokémon Pearl and I have the following team:

Turtwig lvl 19
Shinx lvl 18
Zubat lvl 15 [currently in training]

Can O have some tips for a basic team?

It depends. What moves have they learned?

Well first of all you need to train them more in order to evolve, then worry about their moves later. But if their moves are very crappy try to buy or collect TMs and HMs.

I'm wondering why you haven't evolved them already, two of them are past their evolution level.

The only way your pokemon are ever going to get stronger is by evolving them.

That's not exactly true -even though evolved pokemon gain higher stats at a faster rate- you can still use items and TMs to make any un-evolved pokemon just as strong.

Catch a Ponyta, as they are the only fire-type pokemon you'll encounter. And you'll still need a water pokemon and a rock pokemon (for some HMs coming up).

Zubat sucks. Period. Analyze the weaknesses of Turtwig, then find pokemon strong against that weakness. For example, fire. So get a water-type. Water-types are weak against electric, so get a ground-type. Ground-types are weak against flying, so get a psychic-type, and so on.
