When the government is robbed, the worst that happens is that certain rogues and loafers have less money to play with than they had before. - H. L. Mencken
Quoted from the encyclopedia of stupid:
Communism is a great idea, but it has only one minor flaw. The flaw is that Communism doesn't recognize that monkeys are, by nature, a thieving bunch of backstabbing asshats who will do whatever it takes to separate you from what is rightfully yours in order to make their own situation more comfortable. This is especially true of those monkeys who reside outside our immediate monkeysphere, which means that the average monkey doesn't give two fucks about roughly 6,999,999,950 of the 7,000,000,000 other monkeys who reside on this planet.
As a small scale example, consider 1,000 people who have never met joining together to win a lottery prize of $1,000,000. If you were one of them, your share of that $1,000,000 would be $1,000. However, if the other 999 participants could be made to go away, the entire $1,000,000 would be yours and yours alone! Since you'd never met the 999 other people, they were outside your monkeysphere and you aren't really concerned that they're gone. Communism, therefore, inadvertently gave rise to genocide, in which large masses of formerly wealthy populations are disposed of, to ensure that those in power are able to reap the lion's share of the benefit from their hard work. So become a commie...if you want to not be equal, betrayed by your own leader, and starve to death in Siberia.

pretty much a majority of the world's cultures pre-colonialism
Native Americans for one
And probably african tribes
human nature arguments are so stupid goddam. obviously it is in human nature to be both cooperative and competitive. human nature in itself is secondary to cultural nature, as human nature is to survive, and since humans are a social animal, they survive by fitting into a society. that in itself is a cooperative tendency.
a nice little anecdote on the matter: India undergoes a severe weather-related famine now and then. Pre-colonialism, the India government would transfer food a resources from less-effected areas with a surplus, to more-effected areas with a deficit. This is a socialist endevor. When colonialism came along, with all the European capitalists, they instituted a free-market economy, with no government-controlled redistribution of wealth/resources. And millions of people in the more-effected areas got to die.
WOOO GO FREE MARKET CAPITALISM
To a general extent, I agree.
Native Americans were pretty cooperative within their tribes, etc., but not with others sometimes. No culture is majorly cooperative. There will always be the ones who try to push rules and laws, always those who se differently.Originally Posted by MTBK
But otherwise, ok. Those are good examples.
Since God refuses to look at my argument because he OBVIOUSLY knows so goddamn much about psychology and cultural influences, I'm gonna play along and pretend to be his stereotypical capitalist.
Tragic, but the government has no right to appropriate my money. It's mine, I earned it, and I'll be damned if they're gonna take it from me to support some people who can't even fend for themselves. What would I ever get out of helping them other than having to work even harder to get back financially to where I was? What would they do for me? I mean I'd be saving their lives right? Oh sure if I suffered from a famine or drought they might be obligated to send me money, then I could feel like a loser who's unable to fulfill his own basic needs. Big deal. When colonialism came along, with all the European capitalists, they instituted a free-market economy, with no government-controlled redistribution of wealth/resources. And millions of people in the more-effected areas got to die.

It is just wrong in every sense of the word. You could look up "wrong" in the dictionary and find your quote listed as an example. Ever heard of the word "slavery"? People always have worked even under the most adverse conditions. Some even willingly, because they're told to or they think they're making a difference or some other bullshit.

Pretty much any black who lives in kankakee, Illinois doesn't work and lives off the state, or sells drugs.
the average manual laborer making minimum wage certainly works harder than the average ceo.
also im glad you brought up the drug trade because that is basically proof that running a business doesn't really take a whole lot of education or financial literacy in actuality. the average corporate dick isn't any more capable or intelligent or hardworking than the average immigrant mowing your lawn, they are there because their parents paid their way through college and their culture/society was geared toward their particular success. so why cant they be replaced by democratic worker's councils running businesses at a local level(what a small government ideal, conservatives should love it!)
also it is "human nature" to work hard to contribute to your society, whether capital is involved or not.
It's society that has made people lazy, not human nature
That's also very true.
Notice that TL hasn't said anything yet.
Better things to do, probably. And I guess I can put a few cents into the pot. Yeah, communism isn't necessarily a bad thing, and it IS human nature to cooperate.. that's the best way to survive. It's also human nature to want to advance... move on to bigger things. And I'm not so sure how well that works in communism. I'm no sociologist so I can't be sure, just seems not likely. God you're the gov'ment boy, tell us how viable social and economic advancement are in a communistic society.
