The Correctional system needs to be a balance between Rehabilitation and Punishment. Reguardless if the individual is sick or not, they did something wrong. And if someone can only expect to recieve a slap on the wrists attempt at "correction" for committing the worst crimes imaginable to society, then whats to stop them from being a repeat offender. Punishment is a deterrent, Hell, the only thing that has stopped me from killing a couple of people in my life was the threat of consequences. Stopping people before they commit the crime is more important than helping them once they've already made the mistake

Look, everyone is given an opportunity to do better with their life at lower stages of crime. That is when rehabilitation comes into play, which I fully agree with. And perhaps these kids, or ghetto people that I mentioned earlier, are not taught proper morals, or even if they are, do not always have the full opportunity to execute said morals. And maybe I'm being a bit partial from up here on my teenage white middle class suburban pedestal, but no matter how you look at it, there is, in no way, shape or form any case where a civilian has the right to take the life of another civilian in a domestic setting. I do not care how uneducated you are or how shitty your upbringing has been. No one should be able to kill another human being in cold blood, or even in an act of vengeance and walk away without even-handed justice being applied to them. Everyone has the common sense instilled into them that killing another human being because you're a PMSing faggot at the time is utterly wrong. End of story. That is where capital punishment comes into play. No other time.
