    Default Well this is bad

The BNP won two seats in the EU parliament. For those of you who don't know, the British National Party is basically our version of the National Socialist German Workers Party. Hopefully they haven't earned any of the six as yet undeclared seats as well. Conservatives are leading with 24, UKIP have 13, Labour 11, Lib Dem 10, Green Party 2, BNP 2, Plaid Cymru 1 (63 of 69).

It's only two seats, so they won't be able to do much, and it doesn't mean they can directly control British law. It's more the principle of the thing. What kind of people would vote for a clearly racist political party?

Yeah that's pretty bad. I don't think even the Republicans in America are as unabashedly racist as the BNP. Then again the Republicans have a lot more mainstream acceptance than the BNP so who's the say who's ahead on the scorecard.

Remind me to have you killed. And no, you can't control British law. You could barely control EU law. You have two seats. Two. I doubt the BNP is going to swing the vote.

It's been attempted, to no fruition.
And I was making an Obama reference.

You should have posted this with my thread. My thread on the BNP was head and shoulders better than this thread.

The BNP being give 2 seats is just a backlash against the waves of Muslims moving to Europe... It's wholly unsurprising.
I put no stock in religion. By the word religion I have seen the lunacy of fanatics of every denomination be called the will of god. I have seen too much religion in the eyes of too many murderers. Holiness is in right action, and courage on behalf of those who cannot defend themselves, and goodness. What God desires is here [points to head] and here [points to heart] and what you decide to do every day, you will be a good man - or not.

Actually it's a backlash against the main parties in British politics.

You'l have to explain that one to me... it seems like a backlash against Muslim 'intrusion' if you will, because BNP is a very anti-Islamic party.

The BNP is an anti-people-not-of-white-British-descent party. Apparently a large number of voters only voted for them as a way of getting back at the major parties: Conservative, Labour and Lib Dem.

But they're alslo blatantly anti-homosexual. In today's society that means close-minded and intolerant (not that any of their other policies are any less so...). I still don't see why someone would vote AGAINST themselves in that respect.

this strikes me as an apologist talking point made out to make britian seem less racist for electing unapologetic racists to an international representative body

They only got 6.2% percent of the vote, and little more than a third of the population voted.

so? that doesnt make it a protest vote. no one would vote a racist, facist, rightist party as a protest vote to mainstream parties unless they wanted mainstream parties to be more racist and fascist.

It's also a little scary that in 2005 they got .7% of the popular vote and now they're up by more than 5% in one cycle...

Some people interviewed claim it was a protest vote. Others don't.

The seats they won were in two constituencies: the North West and Yorkshire and the Humber.

if it was a protest vote then that means they want mainstream parties to be more racist and fascist

What it means is that they think racist fascists are somehow more trustworthy and better able to govern than the mainstream. Don't forget the expenses scandal.

the point is that the uk has elected unabashed racists to a representative body. at least the republicans try to hide it a little. so british people and us college students can stop acting like the uk is some liberal paradise compared to america

The point is that a tiny proportion of the UK voted for them. Every country has it's share of extremist retards. You can't make a sweeping generalisation about a country based on 6.2% of the votes of just under 34.5% of the population. That's ridiculous. You might as well claim that the entirety of America is racist because the KKK exists.
