Your absolutely right about it looking like a new Pokemon, it may just work, suggest it for one of the 5th Gen. Pokemon, and then I wouldn't mind a fifth Gen.

I created my own starters as well. In truth, I created a whole new region, the 12 gym leaders there (yeah, 12 of them) and applied seasonal changes.
If I made the game, the badges you obtain go out of season (every 4 months). You will have to go out and rematch Gym leaders for a new seasonal badge. Not all of the badges go out of season though, so as the player, you must go out and find to fight the gymleaders.
Another thing I will add, the first time one of your Pokémon defeats a gymleader, they receive a ribbon. The ribbon has two special effects:

1) Depending on the Gymleader, an certain IV (yes, IV) will be increased for a particular stat on that Pokémon. My first Gym Leader is a steel type, and Sp.DEF IV will be increased 4 points when this ribbon is awarded the a Pokémon.
2) Gym Stadiums no longer influence the Pokémon wearing the ribbon. I have a Poison Type Gymleader who poisons the air. All Pokémon who do not wear the ribbon will lose health in between turns. So if you rematched the Poison Gymleader, the poison effect wont hurt your Pokémon who wear that ribbon.
*Ribbons only stop the effect of the gym they were awarded from

I still have lots to do, first off, color and ink them in my photoshop to match how Ken Sugimori draws them. And then I have my other project of having all the Pokémon in the First Generation art style (red and blue version Pokémon Art).

I never said they wouldn't look cool Kirbx, I just said that they were unnecessary, but lets not discuss this here, that was a different topic. While I'm here, whenever you get a chance, I would like to see a Dragonite/Charizard fusion, if you could fit any Metagross parts in there without it looking too... abnormal, that would be good too.
