What the hell kind of test is that!? That is EVIL. Would it be good of me to test people by jamming a stake in their leg to see whether they'd grin and bare it?

So you're justification for God causing innocent people to suffer is that he needs to? Why does he need to? He doesn't need to punish them because they haven't done anything wrong. He doesn't need to test them like that because he already knows if they'll believe in him. There is no justification for the suffering of innocents (which, incidentally, is why I think Venom is a brilliant misguided hero).

Kirby... stop talking, you're confusing yourself. Well, Still going by my opinion. God set the universe into motion. He did it with God Magic or whatever... but he set its universal laws, which we codify as normal. And other than tagging along and helping out his Chosen people for a time, God let Jesus come down and do his thing, but for the most part he's left it alone... to see how everything unfolds. Things Evolve... that's a fact not an opinion. I'm sure God had some general direction for this evolution but he only set things up. He doesn't use his hand to pump every heart. Diseases evolve... bacteria multiply, etc. etc. It might not have been a specific design point of God's mere an extrapolation of the pattern he put into existence at the beginning of our time. From some points of view... Yeah he SHOULD do something about disease and suffering children, on the other hand, diseases are often nature's way of controlling populations. If Everyone who ever lived never died.... well I'm not sure what the exact results would be... but we wouldn't have lots of cool stuff, and their would likely be other causes for suffering.

I think you're what is known as a deist, Qoorl. They believe that a god set up the basic laws of the universe and then left it to unfold.

If god made the universe... I would think god would want to be worshiped. Not the other way around to serve people.

Think about it, if you were god, would you want to answer every single persons problems?

If God made the universe and there was evidence of it I probably would worship him. But there isn't so I don't.

Ed,I like to think the soul is the part of us that thinks and feels.

We'd be no more than zombies if we don't think and feel after death. What's the point then?

You aren't a zombie when you die, you're dead. That's it. Your body is a block of carbon, water and assorted elements. Why should there be a point to death?

Even if there was 100% undeniable, irrefutable proof of God's existence and his role as the universe's creator, I still wouldn't worship him. Yes, he created the universe, nice job God, big round of applause for God, but that wouldn't be reason enough for me to sacrifice my free-will just to please HIM.

Personally, I think it's beyond pathetic that a being who supposedly created the universe with unlimited power needs the pitiful devotions of us insignificant humans anyway. What does he get out of it exactly?

Ed,I like to think the soul is the part of us that thinks and feels.
And you're wrong. Our brains are what give us the ability to think and feel, this has been proven conclusively.

Oh,so you don't believe in eternal souls?
Why should he? Why should anyone? You can't prove there's such a thing.

It also happens to be Latin...

And no, I don't believe we have a soul. And as Stephen Law points out when considering identity in The Philosophy Files, even if we did have a soul it would have no influence on the way we act or think.

God is a thing that wants to experience his universe. He created humans and put us in this dimension. We are his eyes and ears, his hands and skin. Our soul captures the experiences we live out and when we die, our soul travels to him and we share this information with him.
But our souls can hold loads of data and that's why we experience so much. Have you ever met someone new, but felt as if you knew them your entire life? That could be explained by our souls in a previous life experiencing each other before. The other person has this same feeling as well, so it cannot be deja-vu at the same time experience by two or more people.

although latin WAS a language at one point it's now a vehicle for people to pretend they're more clever than they are.
