Gameshark...

my friend loaned me his gameshark, and i started using it, and entering some codes and such, so then i clicked start game at the main menu and it asked if i wanted the codes on blah blah, and i said yeahh, and then it told me to turn off the gameshark, which i did and then the game started but the codes weren't in effect : I`m using pokemon silver, but that game isn't listed on the gameshark, so i just put yellow, but will that not work? Is that why my codes aren't doing it?

2. The master code wasn't on
3. Yellow cheats have different values than those from Silver

The master code put's every code you put in effect when you start the game.
