Default America's educational future looks bright!

    http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/13/ed...n/13texas.html

AUSTIN, Tex. — After three days of turbulent meetings, the Texas Board of Education on Friday approved a social studies curriculum that will put a conservative stamp on history and economics textbooks, stressing the superiority of American capitalism, questioning the Founding Fathers’ commitment to a purely secular government and presenting Republican political philosophies in a more positive light.
"A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects." - Time Enough For Love, by Robert Heinlein

I think Demarks is ok since they are good at doing everything right. I think every country should do what they do.

Yet another reason to homeschool your kids...

    Homeschooling is a bad idea.

Homeschooling is good besides the fact that the kid(s) will most likely develop poor social skills and a lower tolerance for disease and dumb people, making them feel snooty for most of their lives.

But besides the cons, at least [smart] parents would be better than a low standard and tedious system that America seems to have.

As long as you get them to meet some friends and you have some sort of oritiering course for college they should be fine.

Home school kids tend to not do so good in college as well.

Social skills are needed for most every job today. Schools give children the ability to develop social skills before doing anything important. Peer pressure is important, too.

You could say Korea and China have good education systems because it's making kids "smart". However, kids aren't learning to think for themselves (they also go from school to after-school school, to cram school, but that's another thing altogether).

Since when do schools teach you to think for yourself? TV does that. Debatably history class lets you make your own opinion but then again do you see any Americans call George Washington a traitorous terrorist?

Thats because he wasn't. Thats schools teaching batshit insane conspiracy theories. History class is one of the only classes that need different opinions, and from what I've seen it does teach from all sides of the argument.

I personally don't really think of Washington as a good president, no matter how glorified he is as "The first president!" or "The man who won the Revolutionary War for America!"

    Eh...
