No. Ok in laymans terms Missingno. was a red/blue exculsive glitch what they simply avioded in later games so its not in any future games.

Missingno was not intended to exist, It was used as a placeholder in the Hexdecimal System (or something like that) It's leftover junk. It is only in 1st Gen. games. (Correct me if I'm Wrong.)

They always have had a default pokemon. Its just that in the first games that they coded a route s bad that it caused one to appear. If you where to somehow went in a place with poorly coded wild pokemon you would find the equlivant of .

Glitch was removed in Yellow, so technically it was in Red/Blue. Consider yourself corrected

Well, I think of Yellow as Generation 1.5. Crystal as 2.5, ect.

From what I've read Missingno. is the result of a data storage error that can be triggered in Pokemon Red and Blue.

It works something like this (although I am going from memory): Pokemon Red and Blue were Gameboy games, which means the cartridges have limited memory. To make the most of it free blocks were used for more than one purpose. If you sequence break part of the game you can use this memory storage system to achieve unexpected results.

When you are learning to catch pokemon from the old man in Viridian City, the player's name is stored in the free memory temporarily so that the display says "OLD MAN used POKEBALL" rather than "[player] used POKEBALL". Afterwards the name would be reset and the memory would be cleared. However, if you manage to glitch out of the tutorial then the data is not reset. This is important, because the free memory is used to determine wild pokemon. You can then encounter a pokemon which will be decided by the data representation of your name. The default name is interpreted as Missingno., which is just what comes out when the specific data values attached to the name are used to generate a pokemon.

Missingno. is not a true pokemon and was not programmed into the game. It is the result of a data storage error. While there may be other glitch pokemon in Gen IV, the data storage system for free memory has been significantly improved, and it is most likely impossible to get Missingno., at least in the Red and Blue form.

I've always subscribed to the Cubone/Kangashan/Missingno theory.

Heck I don't care if it's true or not, that one's the one which clicks with me the most.

Ah, the over-complicated conspiracy theory. My favourite part of that particular one is that the sprites used for the comparison are Gen 3 at the earliest. The baby Kangaskhan is also an edit of the Cubone next to it.

I know about the sprite edit. XD Missingno is just a glitch and a coding error, but I like that theory because I like stories.
