Weekly Spriting Contest #1

Calling out to all spriters! Do you want to show off your spriting talent? Do you want to make it clear that you're the better spriter? Do YOU want to receive a crudely drawn trophy that I made myself? Well, two and a half out of three ain't too dang shabby. So here's the Weekly Spriting Contest*!

- Two winners will be determined each contest. The main winner is the one who creates the best sprite, in terms of originality and spriting ability. The second winner is the comedy prize. This will be given to any contestant whose entry is the funniest.

Pariticipation Rules

1. All entries must fit the theme. The Theme will be specified at the top of the first post.

2. All entries should fit the size restraints. A DPPHGSS styled sprite is 80x80, a GSCRSEFRLG styled sprite is 64x64, and a RBYG styled sprite is 54x54.

3. I'd prefer if your entry has a transparent background. It is still acceptable for a white background, though, it's just not preferred. If you want to make a sprite transparent, use the programs Paint.NET, Graphics Gale, GIMP, www.iaza.com, or Adobe Photoshop. MS Paint cannot make something transparent.

4. All entries should be saved as a .png for not animated weeks, and a .gif for animated weeks. .bmp and .jpg/.jpeg distort the quality of the image, and program exclusive files cannot be uploaded to Photobucket, Imageshack, or Tinypic.

5. You may only enter one piece of artwork into the contest. You may slightly edit it, but once the week is over, you may not change it.

The first round is a retyping contest! Retype any Pokemon into a type from the original RBY series! The contest will end at the start of May 20th by GMT-5. As in, you have until midnight of May 19th to enter.

*Idea and part of the rules stolen from Smogon. It should not be assumed by the name that the contest will be running every week, and the management will not be held responsible for any postponements or cancellations of contests.

Meet Psychic Primeape. Since its type change, has lost most of its furious temper and diverted it into psychic energy instead. Trademark scowl has been replaced by a contemplative expression. Arms have become non-physical due to disuse and legs are considerably less muscled due to decrease in physical exertion in accordance to increase of mental powers. Still retains several fighting tendencies though, such as using its 'arms' to bend psychic spoons instead of using its mind. Fights with its weapon (the large spoon, similar to Mewtwo's) instead of its fists. Signature move is Calm Mind.


I am not satisfied with the way this turned out at all. :/

I totally miss-interpreted what was posted. I guess I'm out.

Aqua Rapidash - This Rapidash was the product of a successful operation of Silph Co.
Ever since this Pokemon was a little Ponyta, it could never control it's flames.
It's owner thought it would be able to master it's own flames when it grows, but until it evolved into a Rapidash, it was unable to.
It's flames grew stronger and stronger, until it came to a point that it burns anything that comes near it, thus it's owner left it.
During that time, a brilliant scientist from Silph Co. encountered it.
He captured the poor Rapidash and brought it to Silph Co.
There, they tried to rid him of his flames.
After the operation, in place of the flames it used to have, this Rapidash now has contained water to cool it's body.
This results to it now being a water type.
This Rapidash also lost along with it's flames, it's aggressive attributes.
Because of the change in typing, this Pokemon now does it's best calmly and rarely gets angry.

Just messed with my Photoshop and played with Rapidash' sprites.

Sorry. I fell asleep. Okay, contest ends now. And let's see the contestants!

A very interesting attempt, and one that I think went well. My only criticism is the way the ice parts of the shoulders meld into the rock arms. It seems very sudden.

I like the idea, however the sudden cut-off of the gas seems a bit jarring, and unlike conventional sprites. There are also slight parts of the border of the gooey part that seem like they not quite right.

Very, very well done. I like the idea, I like the way it's been executed. My only complaint is the quasi-clusterfuck that is his arms and legs. It took several looks for me to realise what parts belong to which limbs. Nonetheless, the sprite is amazing, and the glowies are cool.

A good attempt, but a lot of misplaced pixels, and the transition between the two tails is a little wacky.

Actually a very good sprite. The only problems are the bottom back of the mohawk, where it doesn't quite match up with the shape of the head, and the tail seems a little too big for the flame.

Good. Just the tail looks rather strange.

And the only thing left is the announcing of the winner!
