Honestly, I used to not get the point of them either. But then I got my own kitchen which I have to keep clean myself... I clean the kitchen every day. I got tired of wiping down the toaster daily. And so I made a cozy. Problem solved.

And I am not at all concerned with fire, Khaos. For it to ignite, there would have to be something inside the toaster pressed against a coil. There is not.
