btw people do not react 'instinctively' to their leaders. they just have little choice. its called chain of command syndrome.

they don't act instinctively, they react the same way as their leaders.

its simply people's need to follow.

people find an ideal that appeals to them, and they follow it. much like their leaders.

its been that way throughout recorded history, and it hasn't changed.

its just on a larger scale.

if its not instinct, then why do other beings do it? especially ones with much less intelligence than humanity.

do you honestly believe that the people who follow the leader are actually aware of what goes on behind the scenes. do you honestly think that any of the promises that the leaders make are actually acheived fully; no they are not. but what choice do the regular people have. all they can do is wait around for someone else to come along and make the same promises, vote for them and hope that theyre not the dicks the last ones were. i fail to see where instinct comes into this. people round the globe are not motivated enough or dont have the resources to start a revolution everytime a government fails them. they just go on silently hoping. people need something to believe in.

It helps us get allies <3

    It can be profitable, too.

    i.e; America's status after WW I

rayne, look at all of the people who honestly believed obama was going to be a revolutionary change, and that he would "save" everyone.

you and i may not be that stupid, but they are.

    people are stupid.

they do believe whatever the media tosses in front of them. if there is an ad that says that a politician is something, or acts in some way, someone will believe it. in large numbers or small, its still someone.

im not arguing that people are not stupid, pants. in fact that was the entire premise of my first post. you have yet to explain to be how this inexplicable stupidity is related to instinct above all other factors.

Something has to be done in the next decade or else we ARE going to go back to a pre civil war techology era.

I am not saying we will run out of oil in the next 10 years or even ranting about global warming. But the truth is that in the next decade we will come to a point where oil isn't effiecent money wise at all. We would probably have to resort back to coal which we haven't touched in almost 100 years and most of the best technologies are in musuems. It could take us generations to switch to a totally new system of energy again.

Coal is mainly used to make electricity up here, actually.

Kirby, your retarded. Oil is not only comes from dinosaurs. Anything that has been dead up to the point we started digging up oil is when we began to use that resource.
Let's use simple logic, millions of years with tons of animals dying. A couple hundred when humans found oil as an energy source. Hmm...
Also, there are thing still dying off and slowly becoming oil. I'm pretty sure we won't run out of that resource for a couple hundred thousand year. By then, we would have a new supply.

Anyway. Humans are still evolving. We're evolving and adapting to our environment, which has become a type of social evolution. Trying to survive socially. If you're the weaker personality, then you have less chance of survival, suicide or a life of forever being single. The genes that made that personality no longer exist, so there will be less chance for similar ones to occur.

People still do things instinctively. That's how Psychology can work, interrogation, comercial ads, art and music, the porn industry, and etc.
An inborn pattern of activity or tendency to action common to any given human.
Humans have evolved to a more complex level of evolution. Even Richard Dawkins goes into this concept. There are Psychology Journals that support this as well.
So if the experts are strongly for this idea... compared to an individual here on PD that's against it... I'm going with the experts. They have years of experience and evidence to support their claims, because they wouldn't claim something important as this without any basis.

Humans are evolving to survive socially. War is a social type of survival.

Leo is very simple. In 10 years oil WILL cost more than coal. Thats all I am saying.

Just think of it this way; the crude oil that is killing millions of marine animals will, in a twenty million or so years, create new crude oil! Do you know how long it takes for crude oil to be made? And no, it doesn't come from dinosaurs, it comes from plankton.

Yeah oil came from Plankton over 200 million years ago when frogs ruled the world.

i dont think there is much historical evidence to support humanity's supposed 'need to follow.' hierarchies have always had to be very aggressively enforced and the first human societies had de facto at best leaders for thousands of years.

then again those first human societies were in states of war much more often so but still.

This has all gone off topic again.

A question was asked: What justifies war. I simply gave out my thoughts to say that war is a social affair that humans need to socially survive, and this processing being as natural as a flood.

But instead of other PDers giving out their own ideas, they do what's easier-- attacking another persons opinion and calling it wrong. Then there are the fallacious statements that have nothing to do with the topic at hand.

leo i dont think you have any right to use the word fallacious against the rest of us

youre justifying the killing of millions of individuals, destroying the lives of a few other million physically or psychologically, possible eradication of animal ecosystems, probable permanent damage to a country's economy and in general a period of death, hardship and gloom for any faction participating so that better genes would propagate. you are ignoring that the evolution of personality internally depending on how the person was brought up, his influences and his life experiences, which has a lot more to do with it than his gene pool. you havent explained how the people who win wars have better 'personalities' than the losers. you havent even elaborated on why the fuck personality matters at all.

airplanes arent natural. but guess what, there they are. i dont really understand the natural argument. humans function very high cognitively and are able to apply creative solutions to problems. it is outrageously possible to prevent war based on conflict.

i would tend to strongly doubt there will ever be a world without armed conflict of some moderately large scale though, just because military action has always been a means for an individual to acquire prestige, which is one of, probably the, strongest natural motive for human action. states/communities/whatever organizations there are will have to keep defense forces. in terms of large-scale state vs. state conflicts, a world void of them is very plausible.

plausible, but i have never seen people who can perfectly agree on anything, or even divide anything among themselves without conspiring against the other party.
