...because I've got nothing better to do.
Also, there needs to be greater appreciation for film scores, so I'm reviewing some random tracks that no one probably cares about.
First up, "Welcome To Lunar Industries" from the film "Moon" by Clint Mansell.
Clint Mansell, long time collaborater with bestest bro Darren Aronofsky, for pretty much all his films, including Requiem for a Dream and The Fountain. The former lead to the now famous and much parodied "Lux Æterna" which was used in pretty much EVERY fake trailer for every film ever.
So, what's there to say about this track? Well, it's quite simply amazing. It's very minimalist, and the synthetic sounds are integrated pretty seamlessly into the final product. The whole track hangs off two themes; the first one is established in the first four minutes, the next one in the next minute, and are weaved together in the last two minutes. Obviously, since it is so simple, the tune in question has to be good, since it's holding up the whole track for seven minutes.
And what a good theme it is. I'll probably end up repeating that a good theme evokes a certain atmosphere, but before that phrase ends up getting too clichéd, the track really does evoke an atmosphere. And while it might also might be clichéd to say that it's one of isolation and sadness...well, that's what it is!
Easily one of the best main themes for a film I've heard in quite a while, and well worth a listen (even if it is a bit looooooooong...and sloooow...)
