Actually I had on excitment at all for the 4th gen except for HG/SS. B/W white ain't that bad. D/P/P where aweful.

meh, 4th gen had no build up when 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th all had incredible build up
only the 1st, 2nd and 4th had the real payoff (4th because it payed off more than the build-up should have allowed, and the multipilayer was perfected)
i personally love the 2nd and 3rd gen more than the other 3

1st is the best.
3rd was kick ass.
2nd was good but after playing HG I really don't see what all the hype was about.
5th looks awesome and by watching a few walkthroughs that has been confirmed. Some story line plots are too stupid though.
4th was gay. The routes where stupid and the Ultra-Suicidal Team was stupid. The wifi connectablity barely saved this thing from being plain aweful but not saving it from the worst.
You're not in a position to judge because you never even finished the first two generations.

Yeah, HGSS changed a few things. They changed some of the music, some locations, they made fighting Ho-oh or Lugia mandatory... whatever.
Besides, when you were a kid and heard NEW POKEMON you instantly grew excited just by that notion. Then you finally played Gold or Silver, which, for the first time, added movable legendaries, a phone, a radio, a bug catching contest, the ability to be in more than one region of the world, more than one pokemon in the daycare at a time, eggs, TOGEPI, day and night cycles, apricorns, UNLIMITED BAG, evolution based on happiness, held items, a bar to show experience points, shiny pokemon, Pokerus, TWO NEW TYPES.... Yeah 2nd gen was awesome.
