I agree with your meaning of awkwardness. I, myself, have had those moments. However, you need not always use commas, and hence, the faster pace. I further conjecture that the writer intended the character of Leonardo to be a quick talker, the idea of commas omitted would not be surprising. He does show some agression in the story line. However, what you say is correct in the english language. But we must remember, that writing informally is prone to errors in grammar and punctuation.

    No.

But of course, I'm sure he didn't leave out the commas intentionally, and it's a great story so far

Sorry for the delay. Happy New Year to everyone here at PD.

    Chapter 6

A pink orb of fire shot out of the bushes and blasted the shrine. Leonardo and Ryan dived in opposite directions away from the shrine. A burning pile of rubble remained where the shrine once stood. The unknown Pokémon continued to roar from the shadows.

“It attacked first, we can now battle it.” Ryan said as he called his Latios.

“Yes we can, but look around you. Always be aware of your surroundings.” Leonardo said as he waved his hand, motioning for Darkrai to get ready.

“What do you mean?” Ryan asked.

“A Big, powerful fire Pokémon. Dry, dead and very flammable trees. You do the math.” Leonardo said.

“So what do we do now?” Ryan asked unsure.

“Run!” Leonardo said as he took off in the direction away from the fire Pokémon.

Ryan slipped, but was able to get himself up and run. A wave of fire spread out from the fire Pokémon igniting all the trees in its path. Within minutes a massive fire began engulfing the forest. The fire slowly began gaining on Leonardo and Ryan.

“We would be going much faster if it wasn’t for all these damn trees!” Ryan screamed as he weaved between the dead forest trees.

"I see. Darkrai use night slash to cut us a clear path.” Leonardo ordered.

Darkrai's black, claw-like hands began glowing white with a crimson aura. The pitch black Pokémon then slashed all trees in Leonardo’s path with them.
A straight path opened up for the two Legion members. The raging fire slowly caught up, jumping from tree to tree behind them. The intense flames brushed against the back of Ryan who was slower than Leonardo.

Leonardo and Ryan could see the edge of the forest approaching. The two dove out of the smouldering forest. On his back, Ryan turned around and looked into the fire. He could see the mane of a large Pokémon along with grey plates on its back. The Pokémon disappeared as the fire intensified.

“What was that?” Ryan shouted as he brought himself to a vertical base.

“A very angry fire Pokémon.” Leonardo said as he dusted himself clean.
Ryan’s Latios descended from the air to take its trainers side.

“Thank you, such a help you were in that fire.” Ryan said sarcastically as he petted his eon Pokémon.

“I can’t believe this!” Leonardo said as he began walking to the nearest
    town.

“Can’t believe what?” Ryan asked as he recalled his Latios and followed.

“We were set up.” Leonardo said as he examined a few signs.

“Now I’m really confused.” Ryan said.

“The forest was completely void of ghost Pokémon. We were lured into the forest. Only Legion members knew we were going to be there tonight.” Leonardo said.

“Why would someone in The Legion betray you?” Ryan asked.

“I have conflicting views about world domination than our boss.” Leonardo said as he began walking down route 34.

“What exactly are your conflicting views on world domination?” Ryan asked as he followed.

“He feels that everyone deserves a chance at redemption in The Legion’s new world order.” Leonardo said.

“And you don’t believe that everyone deserves a second chance?” Ryan said trying to fill in the blanks.

“Wow, you must have been top of your class.” Leonardo said with sarcasm. “I have my own agenda for working in The Legion.”

“So you don’t believe in making the world a better place?” Ryan said perplexed.

“Just stop talking. Of course I believe in working for a better world but what about after we make the world a better place, that’s where we differ.” Leonardo said with a smirk.

“Okay, then why is The Legion after us?” Ryan asked even more confused.

“You remember what happened to Maylene?” Leonardo asked.

“Yeah, you put her in a nightmare induced coma.” Ryan said scratching his head.

“I’m a very meticulous person and if I feel someone isn’t in The Legion’s best interest, I take care of them. I do what’s best for The Legion.” Leonardo said.

“So Maylene wasn’t the first person you took out?” Ryan suggested.

“About seven. If anyone in The Legion got a Cresselia, they would be able to wake everyone up from their comas.” Leonardo said worried.

“What do we do now?” Ryan asked.

“We stick to the shadows. The old man will have our heads if Maylene is awake.” Leonardo said as he walked of the main path.

“Why do you follow the old man?” Ryan asked as he tossed his coat away.

“It’s always been that way. I’ve been in The Legion my whole life.” Leonardo said as he released his Darkrai.

“You mean from the time you were a kid?” Ryan asked.

“No, I was born into The Legion.” Leonardo said as he showed Darkrai how to cover their tracks.

“That’s just sad.” Ryan said. “So, what now? Do we just keep running?”

“No. If the old man did come after me it could mean only one thing. He has another dark master lined up.” Leonardo said.

“If he did come after you?” Ryan asked interested.

“If he did, then I think it’s time for a changing of the guard at The Legion.” Leonardo said as he set off.

“How will you know for sure?” Ryan asked

“Well, I guess it’s time I explain how The Legion is run. The elder council, consisting of the three founding members, runs The Legion. They communicate to The Legion troops through four generals. I’m one, Maylene was another. There happens to be a general stationed in Goldenrod city. If someone did order our extermination, she’ll know.” Leonardo explained.

The two kept low and to the shadows as they made their way along route 34. It was nearly sunrise and two flashing lights ahead stopped them. Leonardo and Ryan hid behind two trees. Peering around the tree Ryan saw two police officers who were patrolling the forest with flash lights. One of the officers shone his light on the tree Ryan was hiding behind. Ryan held himself tightly against the tree. Slowly he peered around the tree again and saw Leonardo standing over the now unconscious officers.

“Why did you do that?” Ryan asked panicked as he came out from behind the tree.

“The Legion has its roots planted in most of the law enforcement agencies in the Kanto and Johto. The only region that is Legion free is Hoenn.” Leonardo said as he started removing the police officers clothes.

“What about the Sinnoh?” Ryan asked as he began removing the clothes from the other officer.

“We own the Sinnoh.” Leonardo said as he began changing.

The two dressed up in the police uniforms and tied up the police officers. Now in disguise, the two went back onto the main path of route 34.

“Keep your hat low and don’t make eye contact with anyone.” Leonardo said to Ryan as they entered Goldenrod city.

“Tell me you have a plan or did we steal these uniforms for nothing.” Ryan said.

“The police chief of this city is a Legion member, the third general, an ice master. We get to her and find out if we were set up.” Leonardo said.

“That sounds easy enough.” Ryan said.

“If you consider beating an Articuno easy then yes, by all means, this will be easy.” Leonardo said as he opened the door to the police headquarters.

    Chapter 7

Leonardo and Ryan strolled casually through the lobby of the police station. Aside from the few police officers working the desks, the lobby was empty. The walls were decorated with portraits of police officers and their Pokémon.

The two walked up the elevator and waited. The door of the elevator opened slowly and a group of police officers stepped out. Ryan stood aside and let the group pass while Leonardo stood his ground. Leonardo walked into the elevator confidently, keeping his head down. Ryan stumbled in after him. Leonardo pressed the button for the fifth floor.

“I can’t believe we walked past all those cops.” Ryan said removing his hat.

“Stop smiling and get focused.” Leonardo said as he smacked Ryan with his hat.

“No need to get violent. So what’s the plan?” Ryan said nursing his shoulder.

“We just ask.” Leonardo said setting his hat.

    “Really?” Ryan asked.

“No, of course not. If she invites us to the roof then we’ve been compromised.” Leonardo said as the elevator doors opened.

“Again with that word we.” Ryan said as he followed Leonardo out the elevator.

Leonardo and Ryan marched straight through a room filled with suspicious police officers. Murmurs and whispers filled the room as most of the officers reached for their pokeballs. Leonardo walked up to the chiefs’ office and knocked the door. A blue haired woman opened up the door.

    “Jenny.” Leonardo said softly.

“Leonardo. And it’s police Chief Jenny to civilians.” She whispered leaning in towards him.

“We need to talk.” Leonardo whispered back.

“Not here. Follow me to the roof.” She said louder as she motioned with her hand for the other police officers to stand down.

Ryan’s throat swelled as he gulped down air. He and Leonardo followed the blue haired woman to roof access. The sky was full of storm clouds and seemed ready to burst at any minute. The roof area was flat and completely empty. There was only one way to and from the roof and that was through the police station.

“What gave me up?” Leonardo said as walked away from Jenny and the entrance, with Ryan on tow.

“Blunt force trauma. You said that Red Justice hit Maylene over the head. The doctors said otherwise. The old man called in a favour and got a Cresselia and amazingly it woke Maylene up.” Jenny explained.

“You set me up!” screamed a voice from the entrance.

A familiar pink haired girl flanked by a Lucario emerged.

    “Maylene.” Ryan said.

Ryan, Leonardo and Jenny all three threw their pokeballs into the air and unleashed their Pokémon. Jenny unleashed a sky blue bird Pokémon.

“Your actions have divided our once proud organisation.” Jenny said as her
    Articuno landed on the roof.

“I was right in my actions. I did what was necessary to strengthen The Legion.” Leonardo said.

“You can’t fight the entire Legion by yourself, that’s a stretch even for you Leonardo.” Maylene added.

“Well, I’m here.” Ryan interjected by throwing his hat at Maylene.

“I know what’s best for The Legion. If that means creating a new elder council and acquiring new generals, so be it.” Leonardo said.

“Enough of your nonsense, as far as I’m concerned you are a traitor. Go Articuno, use ice beam!” Jenny shouted.

“Use an ice beam of your own!” Leonardo ordered Darkrai.

A light blue ball formed in front of Articuno's beak. Light blue beams fired from the ball, in Darkrai’s direction. A light blue ball formed between Darkrai's hands, the pitch black Pokémon then released a light blue beam at Articuno’s ice beam. The two attacks collided and exploded.

“Latios, use luster purge.” Ryan said.

“Counter with aura sphere Lucario.” Maylene screamed.

Latios opened its mouth and created a ball of purple energy and then fired a beam of energy at Lucario. The aura Pokémon placed its hand together and fired a ball of blue energy at the luster purge beam. The luster purge blew through the aura sphere but Lucario was able to leap out of the way.

“We need to attack together in unison. Take out the weak link first.” Ryan said just loud enough for Leonardo to hear.

“Good, hit fast and hit hard. Lucario is weaker than Articuno.” Leonardo replied.

“Darkrai hit Lucario with brick break!” Leonardo commanded.

“Latios follow up Darkrai’s attack with Zen head butt!” Ryan shouted.

Darkrai’s arm began glowing white with a dark sparks around it. Darkrai leapt into the air and began a decent straight at Lucario. Latios flew up and followed Darkrai with its blue glowing head.

    “Take down.” Jenny shouted.

“Lucario use aura sphere on Darkrai.” Maylene ordered.

Lucario gathered energy in its hands as Darkrai slowly approached. A split second before Lucario could release its attack, Articuno collided with Darkrai, knocking the pitch black Pokémon out of way. Instead Articuno took aura sphere. Through the smoke and confusion Latios flew and slammed its glowing head into the gut of Lucario.

“Darkrai hit Articuno with a night slash.” Leonardo shouted.

“What about the plan. Latios help Darkrai. Hit Articuno with a luster purge.” Ryan said.

Darkrai's pitch black, claw-like hands began glowing white with a crimson aura. The pitch black Pokémon then delivered a powerful slash across the chest of Articuno. Latios fired a beam of purple energy into the back of Articuno.

“Maylene, help me out.” Jenny shouted at her partner.

“Lucario, get up and use close combat.” Maylene screamed as her aura Pokémon held its gut.

Articuno struggle to stand as Darkrai and Latios closed in on it. The giant bird Pokémon was vulnerable. Darkrai prepared to deliver another night slash but was cut off by Lucario. The blue fighting Pokémon leapt in-between Darkrai and Articuno. The aura Pokémon lunged at Darkrai.

“Darkrai, show Lucario what speed is really about.” Leonardo ordered.

The aura Pokémon unleashed a barrage of punches and kicks at the pitch black Pokémon. Darkrai moved like a three dimensional shadow avoiding every single hit that Lucario threw at it. Tired from its continuous attacks Lucario found itself defenceless as Latios and Darkrai surrounded it.

    “Dragon pulse!”

    “Ice beam!”

Latios and Darkrai took up a half past twelve positions, with Latios directly behind Lucario and Darkrai directly in front of it. Latios opened its mouth and a turquoise ball appeared in front of it. The eon Pokémon then fired the ball at the Lucario. A light blue ball forms in Darkrai's hand; it then released a light blue beam at Lucario, freezing it. The dragon pulse attack hit, shattering the ice and leaving Lucario critically wounded.

Latios and Darkrai both went back to their to trainers side of the roof. Articuno slowly pulled itself up while Lucario lay on the roof.

“We make an awesome team, if I do say so myself.” Ryan said bragging.

“That we do. I’m in a sporting mood. Who tried to take us out in the woods?” Leonardo demanded.

“Isn’t it obvious? It was Birch and his Entei.” Jenny said with a sinister laugh.

“Why is she laughing? Doesn’t she realise she’s losing?” Ryan asked worried.

“She may lose today but the real battle is still ahead. Birch is a part of the elder council. This means that the elder council has truly turned on me.” Leonardo said with his head lowered.

“Awe. Is the great Leonardo finally scared of something?” Maylene pestered.

“Me, scared? Never.” Leonardo said raising his head.”This just means that I have to form my own elder council when I take them out. The Legion will live on through me.”

“And me.” Ryan added raising his hand.

“Of course Ryan. The new elder council is one for the younger generation. We’ll keep the name elder council because it sounds cool.” Leonardo said.

“How dare you. You’ll pay for saying that. Articuno use blizzard!” Jenny shouted enraged.

“Darkrai counter with ominous wind.” Leonardo ordered.

“Lucario get up and use close combat on Darkrai.” Maylene shouted.

“Latios Zen head butt!” Ryan commanded.

Articuno flapped its wings and a strong wind storm of hail and snow came out of them at Darkrai. The pitch black Pokémon began glowing with dark energy. Darkrai folded its arms and the energy drew back into Darkrai. The blizzard unleashed by Articuno got closer. Darkrai spread out its arms quickly creating a storm of foul wind that knocked back the blizzard.

The two powerful winds slowly cancelled each other out. In a flash of blue, Lucario leapt through the dying winds and headed straight for Darkrai. During the aura Pokémon’s decent it was hit by Latios. The eon Pokémon slammed its glowing blue head into Lucario’s head.

Darkrai then leapt up and fired a wave of circular beams at Articuno’s face. The giant bird Pokémon and the aura Pokémon both fell to the ground badly beaten.

“How did your Darkrai do that?” Maylene demanded to know.

“What can I say? That’s what you get from years of training together.” Leonardo responded.

“You may have won but you lost.” Jenny said as she returned her fallen ice Pokémon.

“Is that supposed to be some Zen saying, because it’s stupid?” Ryan said.

“This is a police station. You just attacked the Chief of police. Do expect to just walk out the front door?” Jenny said.

“Why yes, yes we do.” Leonardo said confidently. “Darkrai get ready!”

Ryan pushed opened the front door and walked out of the police station followed by Leonardo.

“Why did you wait till we were at the front door to use your dark void to put everyone in the building to sleep?” Ryan asked a bit ticked off.

“It was more fun that way.” Leonardo responded.

“More fun! We just battled our way through an entire building of police officers.” Ryan said.

“But we are better trainers for it.” Leonardo said.

“You’re right.” Ryan said with a sigh. “Where to now? I mean what do we do, now that The Legion has turned on us?”

“We take it down. I’m sure there are still people who are loyal to me. After this empire falls, ours will rise. We will bring a new era upon mankind.” Leonardo said as he walked towards the bus station.

“Where are we going?” Ryan asked following.

“To find the only person who can help us beat the elder council, the fourth general.” Leonardo said.

    Thanks for the great feedback.

truth be told I don't really know. I just started with the idea of a few characters and formed a story around them.

    Chapter 8

A calm summer breeze blanketed Oreburgh City. It was fossil appreciation day, a local holiday created by the gym leader to honour the city’s rich heritage. The streets were lined with vendors, people and Pokémon. Roark watched over the town from the front of the fossil Pokémon parade. Floats of fossil Pokémon slowly made their way down the streets.

The peaceful tranquillity of the city was soon disrupted. The city found itself under attack from the air. A group of Pokémon launched an unprovoked assault upon the defenceless city. Aerodactyl, Dragonite and Salamence descended upon the city. The vicious Pokémon targeted the parade and proceeded to destroy the floats as well as property. After the parade was left in shambles the flying trio of Pokémon unleashed their unbridled fury on the Pokémon centre leaving it just a foundation.

    48 hours earlier

The sun slowly setting on Littleroot town created a twilight aura over the small town. As the suns light slowly drew away from the town a shadow rose out of the ground. Darkrai hovered towards Birch’s laboratory. The pitch black Pokémon blasted down the doors of the lab with a dark pulse. The assistants scrambled and fell over themselves as they tried to run and escape.

Leonardo and Ryan walked in after Darkrai. The roof of the lab began shaking and crumbling as turquoise balls of energy blew through it.

“Stop hunching your back Ryan. This is a raid, we need to look imposing.” Leonardo said.

“I wouldn’t have to if we travelled only with buses.” Ryan said clutching his back.

“Where is Birch’s computer?” Leonardo screamed at one of the assistants that Darkrai had captured.

“It’s over there.” The petrified assistant said pointing to a laptop next to a large machine.

“Thank you.” Leonardo said as he signalled Darkrai to release the scared man.

Ryan and Leonardo went over to the laptop and started it. Leonardo sat down and broke his knuckles as he began trying to bypass Birch’s firewall.

“I’ve seen this machine before.” Ryan said as he pulled at his hair in frustration.

“I’m sure you did.” Leonardo said pacifying the blue hair trainer.

“It’s killing me. It’s looks so familiar, like I’ve used it before.” Ryan said letting go of his hair and rubbing his chin.

“It’s a fossil resurrection machine. Oreburgh has like a dozen of them in its Pokémon centre.” Leonardo said.

“I knew that.” Ryan said began peering over Leonardo’s shoulder.

“There’s nothing about The Legion or Antonio’s current mission, just nonsense on fossils.” Leonardo said as he slammed the laptop shut.

“Hey check this out.” Ryan shouted as he pointed to a small plaque on the fossil resurrection machine.

The plaque read: “Oreburgh City. Pokémon Centre Machine number 5.”

“Does The Legion have anyone in Oreburgh City?” Ryan asked.

“Roark, he was the first gym leaders I recruited. If it comes down to it, I’m sure he’ll be on my side.” Leonardo said.

“Maybe he will know where Antonio is?” Ryan said as he followed Leonardo outside.

“Remember when I said you’re not the brightest Pidgey in flock? I take it back.” Leonardo said.

“Thanks, that means a lot.” Ryan said with slight sarcasm. “Can I have the honour?”

“By all means.” Leonardo said as he recalled Darkrai.

Leonardo and Ryan walked away from the lab and then stopped.

“Latios, destroy the lab using your luster purge!” Ryan ordered pointing at the lab.

The eon Pokémon opened its mouth and gathered a massive ball of purple energy. Latios then fired a beam of energy directly in the middle of the building. The attack destroyed most of the equipment in the lab which led to a change reaction of explosions that destroyed the lab.

“What kind of message do you think that sends?” Leonardo asked.

“I don’t know but I bet it’s all in caps.” Ryan responded as he returned his Latios.

At the top of the newly rebuilt Brass Tower there stood a solitary figure. Birch shouted into his phone, his rage showing through his calm facade of demure. With a primal scream he threw his phone of the tower.

“You’re likely to give yourself a heart attack.” a voice said from behind.
Birch turned around and saw the old man.

“Why so serious?” the old man asked.

“Leonardo and his rookie just destroyed my lab.” Birch replied.

“Ha ha.” The old man laughed with a sinister tone. “If he wants a war, we’ll give him a war. He is just one person.”

“Yes, but you know what he is capable of.” Birch said slightly worried.

“Don’t worry, firstly we’ll eliminate anyone who would turn on us and support him in his attempted coup d'état.” The old man said placing his hand on Birch’s shoulder.

“Just tell me what to do.” Birch said.

“Have you managed to revive that Aerodactyl?” The old man asked.

“Yes, I’ve already sent it to Winona.” Birch replied.

“Good, very good. I think our situation with Leonardo calls for a bending of The Legion’s laws.” The old man said.

“I understand. Who is the target?” Birch said with a sly smile.

“Roark, he was the first person Leonardo recruited. Tell Winona to use as much force as required.” The old man said before turning and leaving.

    Present Day
Leonardo and Ryan waded through the rubble of what was once the Oreburgh city Pokémon centre. The two examined the damage and tried to find any information on the machine Birch had.

“I’ve got nothing. If they wanted to cover something up, they did a good job
of it.” Ryan said leaving the rubble.

“Maybe the nurse knows something. Let’s ask her.” Leonardo said.

“What makes you think she’ll talk to us?” Ryan asked.

“Badges can be persuasive.” Leonardo said as he handed Ryan the badge ho took from the Goldenrod Police.

“These are badges from Goldenrod. This isn’t going to work.” Ryan said as he followed Leonardo.

“Of course it will. All we need are good suits.” Leonardo said as he pointed to a store on a map of Oreburgh.

Dressed in black suits the two searched the city until they found the Pokémon centre nurse. She was at the Oreburgh gym with some of the towns people. The rest of the town were taking shelter in the mines in case the three Pokémon attacked again. Leonardo passed the message in that they were police and looking for the nurse. The people in the gym each passed it on until it finally reached the nurse who was treating people at the back of the gym.

“I’m the head nurse of the Pokémon centre, Julie Joy.” She said as she followed Ryan and Leonardo outside.

“What exactly happened here?” Leonardo asked as Ryan kept flashing his badge.

“I don’t know. It was during the fossil appreciation parade when these 3 Pokémon attacked for no reason. They just started destroying the city, Roark tried to fight back but the Dragonite grabbed him and carried him off to the mountain.” Joy said.

“What other Pokémon attacked?” Ryan asked.

    “Aerodactyl and Salamence.” She said.

“Did anything strange happen in the days before the attack?” Leonardo questioned the stunned nurse.

“Well, Roark did meet with this strange green man.” She replied.

“Green? He met with the Grinch?” Ryan said puzzled.

“No, a man dressed in all green. Green hat, green hair, all green.” The nurse said.

Ryan and Leonardo thanked the nurse and left the gym.

“Who do think is Mr Green?” Ryan asked Leonardo.

“Antonio. That dude is crazy about grass Pokémon.” Leonardo said.

“So what do we do now?” Ryan asked.

“No clue but the answer is on top of that mountain.” Leonardo said as he pointed to Mount Coronet.

    Chapter 9

Ryan and Leonardo raided the mining company’s empty warehouse for supplies to travel up Mount Coronet. The city was still panic stricken and nobody dared leave the safety of the gym or mine. Leonardo waited outside the warehouse kicking stones and staring at a picture in his wallet.

“What you looking at?” Ryan asked walking out of the warehouse.
The blue haired psychic trainer was dressed in hiking gear and had donned a very large backpack for carrying supplies.

“What are you wearing?” Leonardo asked putting his wallet away.

"What you mean what am I wearing? Look at what you’re wearing.” Ryan said gesturing to Leonardo’s suit.

“I like my suits.” Leonardo retorted as he led the way towards Mount Coronet.
The two walked across the city, its emptiness made it seem dead. Eerie silence occupied this once blissful city. The wind bellowed through the hollow city. Ryan struggled with his heavy backpack as Leonardo laughed.

“I can’t believe it. Those Pokémon really did a number on this city.” Ryan said as he looked at all damage.

“At least we know one thing about these Pokémon; they're controlled by someone evil.” Leonardo said examining the destroyed floats.

“What do you mean?” Ryan asked intrigued.

“By nature Pokémon are good not evil. Pokémon get that from their trainers. For a lack of a better explanation: the worse the trainer, the worse the Pokémon.” Leonardo explained.

The two finally reached the outskirts of the city. They were past the point of no return and began to ascend Mount Coronet.

“How do we get to the top?” Ryan asked out of breath.

“Get rid of that oversized bag because we’re going to climb to the peak.” Leonardo said. “Be more like me.”

“Be more like you? You just stuffed a bunch of energy bars into pockets. You have no climbing equipment what so ever.” Ryan said peeved.

“We don’t need any equipment. There’s a very steep pathway that goes straight to the top.” Leonardo said as tried remembering where the path was.

“What!? You mean I carried this bag all this way for nothing!” Ryan shouted.

“You seemed so happy when you came up with the idea to raid that mining warehouse I didn’t want to disappoint you.” Leonardo said as he set of.

“Oh you are truly evil.” Ryan said as he dropped his backpack and followed Leonardo.

Leonardo began climbing up the face of Mount Coronet. It was secret wall that had been shaped to have cuts in it that allows people to climb it like a ladder. Nervously, Ryan followed Leonardo.

“I think you seriously under sold how steep this pathway is.” Ryan said as he struggled to pull himself up.

“What do you mean?” Leonardo asked as he made little work of the tough climb.

“Firstly the word pathway implies something you walk on and secondly we’re 90 degrees of the ground!” Ryan said.

“It’s actually more like 82 degrees.” Leonardo said with a smirk.

“My protractor must be off.” Ryan said.

“Okay, my bad. I didn’t realise you were so out of shape.” Leonardo said as he surged up.

“I’m not out of shape. This is just ridiculous. How much further have we got to go?” Ryan asked as he tried to keep up with Leonardo.

"We’re only a quarter way up. Stop talking, the higher up we get, the harder it’ll be to breath.” Leonardo said.

The rest of the climb was in complete silence. Leonardo made light work up the climb showing no signs of fatigue. Ryan arms trembled as he forced himself up each stone rung. Every so often the blue hair trainer would stop and look up at Leonardo, who was a good 30 feet ahead. Leonardo would stop whenever he heard Ryan stop. He remembered all the times previously when he climbed this mountain.

It was night by the time the two finally reached the top. A thin layer of snow covered the ground. Leonardo pulled himself up and examined his surroundings. Ryan pulled himself up and rolled on the ground. Ryan lay on the snow, clasping at his chest.

“That was crazy. Where did you find this mew forsaken path?” Ryan asked as he rolled away from the ledge.

“It was part of one of the many tests The Legion put me through. It took me three whole days when I was ten.” Leonardo said stopping to catch his breath.

“What kind of psycho person makes a ten year old do that?” Ryan asked as he sat up.

“The kind who wants to raise the perfect Pokémon master.” Leonardo said as he finally sat to rest.

“That’s really sad. You never had a childhood, friends or any of the stuff normal kids had.” Ryan said waking up.

“That’s your opinion.” Leonardo said a bit ticked off as he threw an energy bar at Ryan to shut him up.

“I can see that a bit of a sore point. So what now?” Ryan asked as he began eating his energy bar.

“We head further north. I can hear some very large Pokémon in that direction.” Leonardo said as he set off.

"You must have like supersonic hearing.” Ryan said with his mouth full as he followed.

Ryan and Leonardo braced the bitter cold as they trudged their way north. The snow made visibility very poor. Ryan felt very off balance in the strong wind and grabbed onto Leonardo coat so he wouldn’t let go.

“Let go of me.” Leonardo said as he pressed.

“Forgive me but I recently spent a day climbing up a mountain without any safety at all.” Ryan said as he tightened his grip.

“What are you talking about? You had safety.” Leonardo said stopping.

    “What safety?” Ryan said puzzled.

“Darkrai was in my shadow. Are you completely psychotic? You thought I would risk our lives like that.” Leonardo explained.

Stunned Ryan looked over at Leonardo’s shadow. The shadow grew claws and waved back at him.

“You forgot to mention that.” Ryan said as he almost tripped when Leonardo started walking again.

The two walked in silence. Ryan was upset and mumbled to himself. He tugged on Leonardo’s coat every so often to annoy the dark master. Leonardo ignored Ryan’s childish acts and continued to walk until the snow stopped falling.

“Why did it stop?” Ryan asked as he let go of Leonardo’s coat.

    “Someone stopped it.” Leonardo said.

“That would explain the Articuno.” Ryan said as he watched the sky blue bird appear over the horizon.

Leonardo grabbed a pokeball and recalled his Darkrai.

“Why did you do that?” Ryan asked worried.

“Look behind you.” Leonardo said as he stared down the Articuno.

Ryan turned around and saw three giant winged figures. Salamence, Aerodactyl and Dragonite and joined Articuno in surrounding the two rebels of The Legion.

“Since we’re probably going to die, can I ask you something?” Ryan asked as he and Leonardo stood back to back.

“Sure, I owe you that much.” Leonardo said.

“How did you become the way you are? What happened to you that shook your fate in humanity?”

    Chapter 10

Ryan and Leonardo found themselves in a steel cage as the four flying
Pokémon carried them off towards The Legion base. Each flying beast held a chain that was connected to the corners of the cage. Leonardo sat in his corner as Ryan tried to find a way out. The blue haired trainer even resorted to biting the bars of the cage.

“Why did we just give up back there? To them of all people.” Ryan said pointing at Jenny and Winona who sat on Articuno and Dragonite respectively.

“To protect our Pokémon.” Leonardo said as he adjusted himself in the corner.

“Protect? They took our pokeballs.” Ryan shouted as he sat down. “Don’t these bars hurt?”

Ryan stood up and looked out the cage as the flying Pokémon picked up their speed.

“You wanted to know what happened to me.” Leonardo said as he motioned for Ryan to sit.

“Sure why not?” Ryan said as he sat in the opposite corner.

Leonardo tossed his wallet to Ryan who fumbled and almost dropped it. Ryan held his hands tightly around the wallet as he picked it up. He opened it and saw a picture in it.

“Wow, you looked happy. Who’s the chick with the silver hair?” Ryan asked.

“I took that picture when I was 17.” Leonardo said with a fading smile. “Her name is... Kate.”

“Kate! Hurry up! I have a match against that blonde ambition of a champion Cynthia. When I beat her the Sinnoh will finally have a worthy champion.” Leonardo said as he knocked on Kate’s hotel room door.

“Look who’s talking.” Kate said as she opened the door and ruffed up Leonardo’s hair.

Kate was dressed in white strapless dress.

“I’m not naturally blonde. Someone left hair dye where my shampoo should’ve been.” Leonardo said.

“How much times have got to apologize for that?” Kate said as she looked up and down Leonardo. “Where’s the suit I bought you?”

“I don’t like suits.” Leonardo pleaded.

The silver haired girl flicked her shoulder length hair and stared and Leonardo with her green eyes. Leonardo felt himself give in but before he could say anything Kate grabbed him and dragged him to his room.

After ten minutes of fighting with his suit, Leonardo finally emerged from his room.

“Now you look like a champion.” Kate said as she adjusted his tie.

Leonardo and Kate waited at the grand stadiums hall. Leonardo’s match against Cynthia was coming up.

“I hate Sunyshore City.” Kate complained as she fiddled with Leonardo’s hair.

“Well, after today you’ll never have to see this city again.” Leonardo whispered back as the two played around.

The mood in the hall suddenly changed when Cynthia dragged herself inside badly hurt from what appeared to be burns. People went running to the fallen champion. Leonardo knelt down her side.

“Who did this to you?” Leonardo asked as he knelt closer.

“He is at the power station.” She whispered before passing out.
Leonardo pulled of his tie and ran towards the door as Kate followed him.

“You’re not coming with me.” Leonardo said stopping Kate.

“Why not?” She asked with her arms folded tapping he foot.

“Okay, you can come but get to the hotel and change first. Meet me at the power station.” Leonardo said as he bolted out the door.

Kate ran in the opposite direction to get to the hotel as fast as possible. Leonardo weaved his way through the crowded city streets on the way to the power station. The power station was closed which was unusual.

Leonardo slammed his fist against the closed gate. Leonardo stared at the gate and stared back at his watch. Unable to restrain himself he began climbing the gate.

“I thought you said you’d wait.” Kate called out as she followed him up the gate.

The two trainers climbed over the gate and cautiously approached the power station. Leonardo took the right side of the front door while Kate took up the left side.

    “You look great.” Leonardo mouthed.

“It’s just jeans and a t-shirt.” She replied.

“I know.” Leonardo said before giving the signal.

Leonardo and Kate both turned to the door and kicked it open. As the door swung open, they both threw their pokeballs in the power station and followed. Leonardo let out his Darkrai and Kate sent out her Cresselia.

“I knew you couldn’t resist me.” An overconfident male voice said.

“Cole.” Leonardo and Kate said in unison.

“Did you attack Cynthia?” Leonardo added enraged.

The green haired man dressed in a black and silver suit with a ‘G’ on the chest nodded.

    “Why?” Kate asked disillusioned.

“Why? So that your new boyfriend doesn’t become champion.” Cole screamed.

“Don’t raise your voice at her. You drove her away by joining team galaxy.” Leonardo screamed back.

“It’s Team Galactic!” Cole shouted back.

“Cole, we broke up two years ago. Get a hold of yourself.” Kate said pleadingly.

“But how can I, it was the greatest year of my life.” Cole pleaded back.

“Firstly it was ten months and secondly I’ve known her since we were both eleven.” Leonardo interrupted.

“It’s not a contest.” Kate said as she tried to calm Leonardo down.

“Come back with me to Team Galactic or this city will suffer! I’ve rigged this power station to explode.” Cole shouted in a menacing tone.

“Not even in your wildest dreams!” Leonardo shot back.

“Then you leave me no choice. When this building comes down leaving the city in complete darkness you two are going to be in it.” Cole said as he threw two pokeballs.

The pokeballs split open and unleashed a large blue beetle-like Pokémon covered in a tough exoskeleton and a large human shaped fire Pokémon.

“Magmortar and Heracross.” Kate said impressed.

“You don’t have to sound so ecstatic.” Leonardo said a bit ticked-off.

“You two may be the best tag team in the Hoenn but here in the Sinnoh, I’m the king.” Cole said.

A narrow hall way, just big enough for the four Pokémon, was the battle ground. Cole stood on top of a generator across the room from Kate and Leonardo. Darkrai and Cresselia would have to be careful not to damage any of the electrical equipment and surrounded them.

“I got Magmortar, you can handle Heracross.” Leonardo whispered to Kate.

    “Stop whispering!” Cole shouted annoyed.

Leonardo shot Cole a confident smile as he placed his arm around Kate, who quickly shrugged him off.

“Heracross use mega horn and Magmortar use flamethrower.” Cole ordered enraged.

“Darkrai stop flamethrower with ice beam.” Leonardo commanded.

“Psycho Cut to counter mega horn.” Kate shouted.

Magmortar swung its cannon shaped arms in front of it and fired two dark reddish-orange streams of fire from its arm cannons at Cresselia. Darkrai glided in front of Cresselia and created a ball of light blue energy between its claw shaped hands and fired a blue beam at the incoming flamethrower. The two attacks collided and exploded leaving a dense steam cloud in the air.

Through the steam emerged Heracross with its horn glowing white, flying towards Darkrai. Cresselia pink, ring-like wings on her sides began glowing dark blue and fired two energy blades. The blue energy blades curved around Darkrai and hit Heracross sending the bug Pokémon flying back across the room.

“Heracross get up!” Cole shouted but bug Pokémon didn’t respond.

“Too bad, Darkrai hit Magmortar with rock slide!” Leonardo ordered with a gloating smile.

Darkrai began glowing with a dark aura. The pitch black Pokémon slammed its claws into the floor breaking the floor up underneath it. The broken bits of tile and cement then levitated with a dark aura and flew at Magmortar. The fire Pokémon couldn’t avoid the attack and suffered a serious blow.

“Magmortar, use fire blast!” Cole ordered out of desperation.

    “Cresselia, psychic.” Kate ordered.

Before the humanoid fire Pokémon could gather the energy for its fire blast attack Cresselia fired an invisible energy wave at it. The invisible energy waved hit Magmortar hard, knocking it out.

“That was fast.” Leonardo said gloating.

Cole fell to his knees and pulled out a piece of paper from his pocket.

“I wrote you a poem.” He said in apologetic tone.

Leonardo rolled his eyes and folded his arms as he waited for Kate to dismiss Cole but she didn’t.

“I know I'm a mess and I want to be someone, someone that I like better. I can never forget, so don't remind me of it forever. What if I just pulled myself together, would it matter at all...” Cole said before Leonardo interrupted him.

“That a freaking song!” Leonardo screamed, throwing his hand in the air.

“Kate, I can’t believe you’re actually listening to this crap.”

“You haven’t changed a single bit.” Kate said disappointed.

“Well, you are wrong. I have changed. I’m smart enough not to get caught.”

Cole said before jumping of the generator and running further into the building.

Cole’s Pokémon got up and followed him. Leonardo and Kate ran after him with their Pokémon in tow. Leonardo and Kate ended up in the turbine room. Cole was on a suspended dock above a turbine with a remote in his hand at the other end of the room.

“Once I hit this button bombs will go off in 120 seconds, taking down this entire building.” Cole boasted as he prepared to press the button.

    “Dark pulse!” Leonardo ordered.

The dark Pokémon obeyed, firing a beam of circular dark energy ring at Cole. The attack hit the dock Cole was on causing him to fall and land on the turbine below. The fall rendered Cole unconscious. During Cole’s fall he pressed the button sending a large beep echoing through the room.

After realising that the bombs were armed Leonardo and Darkrai turned to run out but Kate prepared to run towards Cole. Leonardo turned sharply and grabbed Kate’s arm.

“Where are going?” He asked frantically.

"To save him, duh.” she replied.

“What, he tried to kill us. Leave him.” Leonardo pleaded.

“I can’t. I still...” Kate couldn’t finish the sentence as she broke Leonardo’s grip.

“You choose once and for all. Me or him.” Leonardo said as he walked towards the exit.

Kate looked at Leonardo and then back at Cole. She pulled at her hair before running to Cole’s side. Furious, Leonardo left the building. At the entrance, Leonardo stopped himself from completely leaving. He looked back into the building and looked at his watch. He still had 30 seconds to get Kate out.

Just as he ran into the building the force of the explosion sent him and Darkrai flying out. Lying on his back Leonardo watched the building collapse on itself.

Weeks passed by as Leonardo lay in a private hospital bed comatose, as his Darkrai stood guard. Finally he woke up, with a heavy heart. He mumbled to himself over and over. He kept saying he couldn’t believe he did it.
When Leonardo was fully fit he had an audience with the old man. Dressed in a suit, cover by a black cloak Leonardo kneeled before the old man.

“When you were eleven years old I sent you on a journey to become a great Pokémon master that would make a worthy Legion member. I never expected you to make friends and have emotional connections with someone and quite frankly I’m disappointed in you.” The old man said.

“I’m sorry.” Leonardo said holding back resentment.

“You probably feel hopeless and lost. I have a way for you to feel better but if you do this you’ll never feel anything again.” The old man said. “Then only I make you a general and give the honour of eliminating Team Galactic and giving us control of the Sinnoh.”

“Never being able to feel emotion again. I’ll take it.” Leonardo said rising from
    his knees.

    Present Day

“I never should have left her.” Leonardo said to Ryan as he stared aimlessly out of the cage.

“That’s kind of a sad story.” Ryan said handing back Leonardo’s wallet.

“Ha ha. You were directly responsible for losing the only person who cared about you.” Jenny said as she laughed mercilessly.

    “Quite!” Winona ordered. “We’re here.”

The four flying Pokémon slowly began descending as they approached The Legion’s castle headquarters.

I think the word you're looking for here is 'quiet'.

    Chapter 11

Lucario escorted Leonardo and Ryan into the main hall of the castle. The old man’s throne was occupied by Birch who was flanked by Entei and Maylene. Jenny and Winona stood guard at the only exit. Lucario knocked Leonardo and Ryan down to their knees. Maylene juggled two pokeballs as she laughed sinisterly.

“Take a good look. This is the last time you’ll see Darkrai and Latios.” Maylene said as she tucked the pokeballs into her pocket.

“Where’s the old man?” Leonardo asked Birch completely ignoring Maylene.

“Hey! How dare you disregard me?” Maylene shouted.

“Calm down Maylene. He is just trying to get in your head.” Birch said as he pulled Maylene back.

“Does anyone know the exact time?” Leonardo asked curiously.

“It’s five to ten.” Birch said perplexed.

“Very good, extremely good.” Leonardo said with a smirk on his face.

“Everyone take up defensive positions outside the castle. Make sure nobody gets in!” Birch shouted.

“Come ten, we will be free. So you might as well tell me where the old man is.” Leonardo said confidently.

    “That’s privileged information.” Birch said.

Silence filled the castle for the next four minutes as Birch stared at his watch.

“Nothing, I knew you were bluffing.” Birch said slightly relaxed.

‘It’s only 9:59. Wait.” Leonardo said.

A bright green light formed in front of Lucario giving Leonardo the chance to act. He reached into his pocket, grabbed a pen, clicked it and threw it at Maylene. The pen exploded releasing an energy wave that caused Latios’ and Darkrai’s pokeballs to open. Darkrai and Latios returned to their trainers’ side.
The green light disappeared, leaving behind a man dressed in all green and a Celebi. The man pointed at Lucario and Celebi blasted Lucario with a green wind filled with glowing leaves.

“Antonio.” Birch said as he sat frozen in his chair.

Antonio, Leonardo and Ryan stood together as their Pokémon prepared to attack. Entei jumped in front of its owner and prepared to battle.

    “Leaf storm.”

    “Dark pulse.”

    “Dragon pulse.”

All three legendary Pokémon attacked leaving Entei no chance. The fire Pokémon fell to the ground beaten.

“Darkrai use dark void.” Leonardo ordered.

Darkrai fired two balls of black energy at Birch and Maylene. The energy engulfed the two putting them to sleep. The pitch black Pokémon slowly approached the two preparing to use nightmare.

“There’s no time for that.” Antonio said.

“Okay, stop Darkrai.” Leonardo said as he ran over to Maylene and took back his and Ryan’s pokeballs.

“We have to hurry.” Antonio said as he prepared Celebi.

“What’s so important that there’s no time.” Leonardo asked as he tossed Ryan his pokeball.

“The old man is trying to get a younger version of himself.” Antonio said.

“The only Pokémon that can time travel is Celebi, right?” Ryan added.

“But there are two Pokémon who if they combine their powers can do that as well.” Antonio said.

“I have to show you the future.” Antonio said.

Celebi began glowing bright green and released a green aura. The green aura engulfed Antonio, Leonardo, Ryan and Latios. The green aura shrank until it disappeared from the room.

Ryan stirred as he forced himself to wake up. His head was ringing and he felt as if he was going to be sick. Slowly he pulled himself up and saw everyone
    else up.

    “What happened?” Ryan said groggy.

“Time travel, most people get sick their first time, except I Antonio Richard Iris.” Antonio boasted.

“You wouldn’t happen to know a girl with initials L E O.” Ryan asked trying to regain full consciousness.

“Of course, my wife. Lily Elizabeth O’Hare.” Antonio continued.

“That explains the “A R I + L E O” on the shrine in Ilex forest.” Leonardo said. “Good catch Ryan.”

“What catch?” Ryan asked as he gained full consciousness.

“You were their Leonardo, don’t you remember?” Antonio said.

“No, my mind is a steel trap. I don’t remember.” Leonardo replied as he walked.

“Oh, that was before the old man removed your humanity.” Antonio said as he followed.

“Where are we?” Ryan asked shaking his head.

The trio walked through what appeared to be the ruins of an ancient town. Nothing stirred, not even the wind.

“This is Celestic Town, five years in the future.” Antonio said.

“The old geezer couldn’t defeat you, so he got a younger version of himself to do so. In trying to strip the world of free will and emotion using the lake guardians he ended up destroying almost all life on this planet.” Antonio explained.

“Simple, we go back in time. Stop him and I take over the world.” Leonardo said as he recalled Darkrai.

“Not exactly, only Ryan and I will be going back to stop the old man.” Antonio said.

“What does that mean?” Leonardo asked.

Leonardo turned around and he was alone. They were gone. Leonardo stood in the middle of the ruins with his arms folded waiting.

“I guess they he was serious about leaving all alone here.” Leonardo said to himself.

“You just assumed you were alone.” A cold, inhuman almost robotic voice said.
Leonardo turned around to face whoever was there. A lone figure cloaked in dark blue and wearing a silver Guy Fawkes mask.

“I’ve been waiting for you, Leonardo.” The masked man said.

“Well, I’ve also been waiting for you.” Leonardo said as he unleashed Darkrai.

“I seriously doubt that.” The mask man said callously as threw out a pokeball.

The pokeball landed on the ground and split open. As the bright red light dissipated it revealed a small, grayish blue, fairy-like Pokémon with two tails that each had a damaged red jewel encrusted into them.

“Mesprit.” Leonardo said somewhat taken back.

“The last time you saw Mesprit was when dived into Lake Verity. If I know the story correctly you had Mesprit take away all your emotion with a single touch, proving the legend true.” The mask man taunted.

“That may be true but I’ll have no trouble taking you and your Mesprit out if you give me any trouble.” Leonardo shot back.

“Big talk for some trapped out of their own time.” The mask man retorted.

“You seem to know a lot for a comic book reject.” Leonardo said.

“You’re so funny but time for jokes is over, it’s been over for the last five years. Mesprit use giga impact.” The mask man ordered.

“You’ve got to be kidding me. Darkrai use dark pulse!” Leonardo shouted.

Mesprit flew into the sky and became surrounded by orange streaks. A purple energy then appears from the top of the streaks and enveloped Mesprit's body. Mesprit then flew at Darkrai. Darkrai created a ball of dark circles and fires a beam of circles as a beam from the ball at the Mesprit’s giga impact.
The circular beams hit purple energy surrounding Mesprit stopping Mesprit from moving towards Darkrai. The dark pulse pushed Mesprit further away. The two finally exploded with Mesprit taking most of the damage.

The emotion Pokémon fell out of the sky and hit the ground. Darkrai glided towards Mesprit about to deliver the final blow but before it could the mask man recalled Mesprit.

“Who are you?” Leonardo demanded to know.

The Masked man dropped his cloak and his mask to reveal his familiar blue hair.

    “Ryan? What happened?” Leonardo asked.

“Antonio and I went back and confronted the old man at Spear Pillar but he was too strong for us. He had these two orbs that let his control Dialga and Palkia. Even with Giratina on our side we were still no match for him. After he beat us he had Palkia banish Antonio to another dimension where he wouldn’t be able to retrieve you from the future. Afterwards he tried to bend time and space using Palkia, Dialga and the lake guardians but he failed. Palkia and Dialga tricked him, destroying him but ultimately causing an apocalypse.” Ryan explained.

“Antonio, that fool. I could have made a difference. Now there’s no way for me to get back.” Leonardo screamed kicking the ground.

“There is a way for you to go back. Go to Spear pillar and convince Palkia and Dialga to send you back.” Ryan said.

Leonardo and Darkrai scaled Mount Coronet and headed to the peak. At the peak was Spear Pillar. It looked even more ancient than it did before. As soon as Leonardo set foot on the Spear Pillar two portals opened up. The two legendary dragon Pokémon emerged from the portals.

Leonardo stood there, not saying a word. He didn’t know what to say. The two legendary Pokémon inched closer as Leonardo thought of what to say. Before the dragon Pokémon got too close Darkrai flew up and began communicating with them. After many growls, roars and screeches the Pokémon finally stopped.

Darkrai returned to Leonardo’s side. Palkia waved its arm sending a pink energy wave over Leonardo and Darkrai. The pink energy wave distorted Leonardo and Darkrai in-between reality. Dialga fired a blue beam of energy that merged with pink energy. Time slowed down to such an extent that it started moving backwards. Leonardo and Darkrai found themselves being dematerialised and sent through time.

Its been such a long time since I posted. Sorry to all the people who were following this but university life proved more hectic than i expected. I am going to finish this story.

    Chapter 12

Coughing uncontrollable and unable to pull himself up to his feet, Leonardo found himself on a grassy hill. The depleted Legion rebel rolled onto his back so he could catch his breath.

“I’m definitely not at Sky Pillar anymore.” Leonardo said as he gazed out over the picturesque town before him.

Holding his throbbing head, he gathered the strength to get up. With a few stumbles he finally managed to take a few steps towards the town.

“Return Darkrai.” He said as he motioned towards his shadow. Leonardo returned the pitch-black Pokémon to its pokeball.

Drawing as much strength as he could from his drained limbs, he continued towards town. The people of the town stared at Leonardo as he stumbled through the town.

“What’s wrong with me?” Leonardo mumbled as he felt the life drain from him before collapsing.

Struggling to wake up, Leonardo’s eyes slowly crept open. Everything was blurred but he could definitely see that someone was with him. As the image became less blurred it was clear that there was a young woman standing over him. The only features of her face that Leonardo could take note of was her brown hair and eyes before passing out again.

Finally Leonardo was able to wake up from his comatose state. The same brown haired young woman sat next to him. After regaining full consciousness Leonardo realised that he was in someone’s home, more specifically someone’s bed.

“What happened to me?” Leonardo asked as he tried to get up.

“You probably touched one of the bushes on the outskirts of town. Those bushes are home to Venomoth and end up getting covered in poison spores.”
The brown haired young woman explained as she pushed Leonardo back into bed.

“Why would you help me?” Leonardo asked as he manoeuvred passed the young woman and out of bed.

“I don’t know. You needed help and I was there.” She continued as she handed Leonardo a glass of water.

The young woman walked over to a drawer and pulled out some clothes and handed them to Leonardo before leaving the room. Leonardo’s untrusting instincts were subsided. He didn’t know what it was, whether it was the poison or something else. On the dresser next to the bed was his pokeball. Slowly he got dressed into the clothes that the young woman had given him.

“What kind of person wears brown pants and purple shirts?” Leonardo asked himself as he got dressed.

Slowly but surely Leonardo felt himself get better and his strength return.
Loosening the joints in his shoulders he left the room to look for the young woman who helped him.

Leonardo cautiously made his way down the steps of the house. One of the things he noticed was there weren’t any pictures around the house.

“I see the antidote that I gave you is working.” The young woman said as Leonardo reached the bottom of the stairs.

“Thanks, it seems to have done the trick.” Leonardo replied as he followed the sound of her voice.

Leonardo followed the sound of her voice into the kitchen. In the kitchen she was preparing another dose of antidote.

“You helped me out and I don’t even know your name?” Leonardo asked

“I’m Delia and you’re welcome. So what’s your name stranger?” She asked.

Leonardo looked around the room trying to think of a name. Normally he would have one on the tip of his tongue but his mind was out of sorts today. Instantly his eyes became fixed on the way she prepared the antidote. Delia rubbed together two pieces of charcoal and formed a fine grey powder.

“Did you forget your name?” she asked as she mixed the grey powder with some other powder.

“It’s Ash.” He replied still fixated on the charcoal.

“Ash, that's a nice name.” She continued.

Ash? Really, is that the best you can think of? Leonardo thought to himself.

“I don’t mean to be rude but these clothes seem a bit, you know.” Leonardo said as he turned around.

“What are you talking about? Those happen to be the latest fashion.” Delia replied as she continued making more powder. “Just look at the latest issue of Poke fashion magazine.”

Leonardo looked around and found the magazine on the kitchen table. He picked up the magazine and began to read it. Suddenly he stopped, he couldn’t figure out what was wrong with him. Reading a fashion magazine, relying on a complete stranger for help and the urge for vengeance in his heart had all but died. Shuddering he held the magazine in his hand; he racked his brains searching for a reason.

Leonardo placed the magazine back down and ran his hand over the cover as he let out deep breaths. The dark trainer’s hand began to tremble when he arrived at the date.

“01 July 1986, this can’t be right.” Leonardo said.

“Oh, that’s last month’s edition.” She replied. “You look so pale; you need more of this antidote.”

Delia mixture her powder with water and handed it to Leonardo. Leonardo downed the antidote in one large gulp. The sound of chimes filled the house.

“Someone’s at the door.” Delia said as she went to check it out.

Uneasy silence followed before the person at the door tried explaining something but his voice got louder and louder.

“Let me in!” The man demanded at the front door.

“No!” She shouted as she tried to shut the door but the man wouldn’t let her.

“I am Gio ...” The man continued before he was cut off.

Slowly and timidly Delia opened and peered outside. Leonardo was standing outside but the man who trying to enter the house was gone.

“He won’t be bothering you again.” Leonardo said as he stared into the distance.

“How did you do that? You’re even wearing his clothes.”She asked scared and afraid.

“I liked his suit except for this R on the pocket.” Leonardo said as he ripped of the coat pocket.

“Who or what are you?” Delia asked from her doorway.

“Someone who is very grateful your antidote worked.” Leonardo said as he felt himself return to normal. “Is that a windmill?”

“It’s actually a turbine that powers the lab where I work.” She replied.

“That’s why I’m here.” Leonardo said to himself as he lifted his arm to wave goodbye and set off towards the lab.

“Thank you.” Delia whispered when Leonardo was gone.

    Chapter 13

Leonardo stood at gates of the colossal laboratory that stood before him. After waiting hours for the sun to set, his hands trembled with anticipation as he jumped over the gate and walked towards the famous Oak Pokémon Research Laboratory.

Staring down the door Leonardo’s shadow began to twist and sway before moving towards the door. The animated shadow glided under the door and disappeared in the house. The lock on the door slowly undid itself before the door eerily swung open. With a wicked smirk Leonardo entered the house.
Undetected, Leonardo made his way into the main research floor. He switched on the lights to get a better look of the lab.

The lab was filled with computers and water tanks that were all meant for research. In the middle of the lab there was a cylindrical container that had three pokeballs inside of it. Leonardo examined each pokeball as someone slowly crept down the stairs that were to the back of Leonardo. A silent, multicolored beam of energy headed for Leonardo’s back but before the beam could reach him his shadow leapt of the ground and blocked the attack.

“How quaint, a psybeam attack.” Leonardo said as his shadow reformed into Darkrai.

“Attack using head butt!” The man on the stairs shouted.

Leonardo looked into the cylindrical container in front of him. Its glass cover allowed him to see behind him. The Pokémon that was attacking him was a Hypno.

“Night slash.” Leonardo ordered, still examining the pokeballs.

Hypno jumped of the stairs and headed towards Darkrai with its head glowing. Darkrai’s claw began to glow crimson and it slashed Hypno out of the air. It slammed onto the cold, hard floor and lost consciousness.
Leonardo finally turned around to see who was opposing him. It wasn’t who he had expected to be there.

“You’re not the professor.” Leonardo said as he readied Darkrai.

“I’m his student, Spencer and I’m not going to let you steal his Pokémon.” The man shouted as he recalled his Hypno.

“I’ve always wanted to battle someone from the eighties.” Leonardo joked as he got ready.

“Golbat, I choose you!” Spencer screamed as he sent out another Pokémon.

“That large mouth and fangs always freaked me out.” Leonardo continued to
    joke.

“Well this will freak you out more, poison fang.” Spencer ordered.
Golbat flew at Darkrai as its four fangs began glowing purple.

“Not more poison. Use sucker punch.” Leonardo ordered getting serious.

Darkrai disappeared just as Golbat reached it. The pitch-black Pokémon reappeared behind Golbat and punched the bat Pokémon in its back, knocking it out. Spencer returned his Pokémon before grabbing a pokeball of a table.

“Now you’re in for it. Go Venusaur.” Spencer shouted in frustration.

“Don’t you think this lab is a bit small for that?” Leonardo added.

The Venusaur that Spencer sent out was different from a normal one. Instead of a large red flower with six white-spotted petals it had a large blue flower with six completely silver petals.

“So the good professor’s experiments have already begun.” Leonardo stated.

“How dare you, use vine whip!” Spencer ordered.

Several black vines appeared out from under the leaves on the back of Venusaur and wrapped around Darkrai. The seed Pokémon slowly began to tighten its grip on Darkrai.

    “Darkrai use shockwave.” Leonardo commanded.

Blue streaks of electricity gathered around Darkrai before being released into the vines and sent back to Venusaur. The attack did little to phase the powerful grass Pokémon.

“Finish it with razor leaf.” Spencer shouted overconfidently.

“Enough playing around, use ice beam now.” Leonardo said.
Venusaur launched hundreds of small razor-sharp leaves from the leaves on its back at Darkrai. The pitch-black Pokémon became a shadow and escaped the hold of vine whip.

Darkrai placed its hands together and formed a blue ball of energy between them. It then fired blue beams from the ball at Venusaur. The ice beam hit the razor leaves, freezing them and dropping them out of the air while the attack continued towards Venusaur. The grass Pokémon suffered heavy damage from the ice beam and fainted.

“Your battle against me was futile.” Leonardo boasted. “I am the best there is, the best there was and the best there ever will be. And I can say that because I’ve travelled through time.”

“You can’t defeat the professor. As we speak he is working on a way to summon and control the most powerful Pokémon ever.” Spencer explained sinisterly.

“Tell me more.” Leonardo said as stepped closer to Spencer.

“I’d rather die than betray the professor.” Spencer exclaimed defiantly.

“Oh that can be arranged.” Leonardo said as he motioned to Darkrai.

The pitch-black Pokémon shadowed behind Spencer and placed its hand on either side of Spencer’s head.

“Now, do you think you’ll be a little more co-operative?” Leonardo asked taxingly.

“The professor discovered the existence of a so called original Pokémon.” Spencer quickly explained.

“Interesting, do you happen to know the name of this Pokémon?” Leonardo asked as he walked around fiddling with buttons.

“He never said; all he told me was that this Pokémon was immune to all types of attacks.” Spencer continued.

“What do you mean immune?” Leonardo asked intrigued.

“The professor discovered that this original Pokémon had some sort of shields that it used to protect itself from each type of Pokémon attack.” Spencer answered.

“So how did he plan to catch it?” Leonardo asked.

    “I don’t know.” Spencer said.

“For some reason I don’t believe you. Darkrai do your thing.” Leonardo said.
Darkrai began to gather dark energy around its hand. Spencer could see the energy next to his face. Beads of sweat covered his face along with a few tears.

“Okay, okay. He plans to gather the strong Pokémon of each type and have the Pokémon break the original one’s shields.” Spencer squealed in fear.

“So it was all a lie.” Leonardo said as he began pacing. “I wonder who else knows.”

“No, it was all the truth.” Spencer cried out.

“Darkrai take care of him.” Leonardo ordered.

A black ball on energy engulfed Spencer completely. When the energy dissipated Spencer’s unconscious body fell to the ground. Darkrai stared at
Spencer as he began to convulse in his sleep, the nightmare slowly attacking his weak psyche.

Leonardo and Darkrai slowly faded away. They could feel the pull of Palkia and Dialga drawing them towards the future.

    Chapter 14

Groggy and dazed, Leonardo woke up on a bench. It was sunrise and the sun’s light slowly peered over the tall buildings in the city.

“Where am I?” Leonardo asked as he looked around confused.

Next to him was a newspaper. Regaining his senses, he picked up the paper and began to read it. The first thing he looked for was the date.

“They got the right year but wrong month. They sent me six months too far, so much for deity Pokémon.” Leonardo said as he returned his Darkrai.

Leonardo wandered the streets of the city searching for some sign of where he was. It was strange, the day had just begun yet the city was dead. Leonardo continued his search but nothing could be found. The names on all the street signs had been removed, they had been clawed away.

A familiar site caught Leonardo’s eye but something was wrong. Leonardo knew where he was at that moment. Wading the through the crumbling remains of the demolished gym Leonardo looked for answers.

“The Rustboro gym, what happened here?” He asked as he inspected.

As Leonardo continued a distinct buzzing sound cut through the air. The noise became louder and louder until the source was in sight. The buzzing sound was created by a group of small flying black and yellow Pokémon.

“Why does it have to be Ninjask?” Leonardo said as readied Darkrai’s pokeball.

The swarm of bug Pokémon had taken up an attack formation as they approached Leonardo. Leonardo held the pokeball behind ready to throw; patiently he waited for the swarm. As Leonardo prepared to release Darkrai, a red Pokémon blurred passed him and cut the Ninjask of.
The eon Pokémon shrieked as it tried to keep back the swarm of bug Pokémon.

“Let’s get out of here.” A woman said as she grabbed Leonardo’s arm.
Leonardo turned his head and saw a familiar face.

She didn’t have the same red leather jumpsuit she had last time but it was her. It was clear that Darkrai’s nightmare had worked, she didn’t recognise Leonardo.

“What’s wrong with you? We have to go; Latias can’t hold them back much long.” Veronica shouted.

As Veronica spoke, the Ninjask attacked. The ninja Pokémon crossed their small arms which started to glow light purple. They then took turns flying at Latias and slicing at the eon Pokémon in an 'X' like fashion. Taking all ten X-Scissor attacks proved too much for eon Pokémon. Latias fell to ground, beaten.

“We’re at the mercy of the Ninjask now.” Veronica said horrified.

“I’m at nobody’s mercy.” Leonardo shouted as he released his Darkrai.

The pitch black Pokémon appeared and prepared for battle. After seeing the Pokémon Veronica held her head as she fell to the ground in pain.

“Darkrai attack using rock slide.” Leonardo ordered.

Darkrai’s body began to glow black. As the black around Darkrai intensified the remains of rubble the building also began to glow black. The rubble floated over the heads of the Ninjask before the rumbled shattered in to small pieces and hurled towards the bug Pokémon.

“I almost forgot, Darkrai save Latias.” Leonardo added.

The pitch-black Pokémon quickly flew to the eon Pokémon’s side and used protect. A green force field came up around Darkrai and Latias protect them from the shower of rubble. The ninja Pokémon retreated after being beaten by the rock slide.

“That has got to be the most powerful Darkrai I’ve ever seen.” Veronica stated as she got up and ran to her Latias.

“You’ve seen a Darkrai before.” Leonardo said as he recalled his Pokémon.

“I don’t know exactly when but I have dreams about seeing one.” Veronica responded as she examined her Pokémon’s injuries.

“Since when do Ninjask roam free in populated cities?” Leonardo asked.

“Since six months ago. Two powerful trainers appeared, one wielded an army of bug Pokémon and the other a single dark Pokémon, it was a Pokémon I never saw before. I tried to fight them off but I couldn’t. They took over the city and instituted their own twisted version of marshal law. They turned the Devon Corporation into their own personal headquarters.” Veronica explained.

Veronica returned her Pokémon and began to leave. She checked the different streets before calling for Leonardo. The former superhero stuck to the shadows and crept through streets while Leonardo casually strolled behind her.

“Have you guys tried to get outside help or anything like that?” Leonardo asked as Veronica checked around a corner.

“Of course but there are hundreds of bug Pokémon surrounding the city. It’s impossible to get in or out.” She said with a hint of resentment.

“Not that impossible, I got in.” Leonardo joked.

“How? How did you get passed the bugs?” Veronica asked as she grabbed Leonardo’s coat collar.

“I know some beings that can manipulate time and space.” He said as he shrugged Veronica off.

Veronica stared back at Leonardo blankly before leading him to the Pokémon centre where most of the woman and children were. Once in the lobby the centre door were bolt locked and reinforced. Veronica left Leonardo to talk to Nurse Joy.

After her conversation with Veronica, the tired nurse pleaded with Leonardo for help.

“Sorry but I’m not looking for trouble with any gang.” Leonardo said as he turned to leave.

“Please, you must help. Ever since that green haired trainer and his hooded buddy came here we’ve had no peace.” Nurse Joy pleaded.
Leonardo stopped in his tracks. He thought to himself before turning around.

“Did the green haired one have a weird portion of his hair standing up?” Leonardo asked.

“Yes, do you know of him?” Veronica asked.

“Yeah, he is Aaron, a former member of the Sinnoh elite four.” Leonardo said.

So my replacement and bug boy have laid siege to this town, but why. They must want some technology from the Devon Corporation. I’ve got find out what it is. The old man used me and now it’s time for my revenge, Leonardo thought to himself.

“So will you help us?” Veronica and Nurse Joy asked with tears in their eyes.

“I’ve had a change of heart, I’ll help you but we do it my way.” Leonardo responded.

    Chapter 15

“You understand what we are going to do?” Leonardo asked a scared Veronica.

Scared and nervous Veronica nodded as she prepared to carry out Leonardo’s crazy plan.

“Are you ready? Let’s go!” Veronica said to the small team of Pokémon trainers who resided in Rustboro City.

Storming out of the Pokémon centre they made their way towards the Devon Corporation drawing the entire bug Pokémon army in the city. They were outnumbered but all they had to do was buy Leonardo enough time to break into the Devon Corporation.

While Veronica and her troops battled against the bugs, Leonardo sauntered through the lobby of the Devon Corporation. The lobby was completely empty; no was there or had been there for weeks. Without much effort the dark trainer made his way to the elevator. Inside the elevator was an array of different buttons.

“Aaron and his partner would be on the pent house floor so I’ll go to the tech department.” Leonardo said to himself.

In the streets of Rustboro, Veronica and her band of trainers found them out matched by the sheer number of bug Pokémon.

The elevator stopped on the tech floor and just like the lobby, it was empty. However, Leonardo could sense that someone was hiding. The lights were dim and the lab had been trashed.

    “Please stay away.” Someone whispered.

Leonardo could hear this and followed the sound of the voice to a scientist who was curled up in a foetal position in the corner of the lab.

“So many bugs, so many bugs.” The scientist continued.

“There are no bugs now.” Leonardo reassured as he crouched down near the scientist.

“So many bugs, so many bugs.”

“Okay, this guy's useless.” Leonardo said as he walked away.

“The bugs obey the queen, the queen obeys him. The bugs obey the queen, the queen obeys him.” The scientist said softly.

“Maybe you’re not so useless.” Leonardo said as he turned around.

“Sound is the key. Sound is the key.” The scientist mumbled.

“So we’re back to crazy.” Leonardo said.

“Fix it; it can control the original one. Fix it; it can control the original one.” The scientist said as he began rocking back and forth.

“What controls the original one?” Leonardo asked as he stopped the scientist from rocking.

“The azure flute.” He said before laughing uncontrollably.

Leonardo turned and walked away, but stopped and motioned to his shadow.

A black ball of light fired from his shadow at the scientist putting him to sleep.

In the street outside the Pokémon centre, Veronica was all alone. All the other Pokémon trainers had scattered, hoping to draw the bug army away from the centre. Her team of psychic Pokémon were being battered by the massive swarm but she continued to fight.

Leonardo made his way up to pent house to face Aaron and his replacement and then get the azure flute. The subtle chime signalled that he had reached his desired floor. Across the room from him was Aaron, who sat on the presidents table looking directly at him. Leonardo stepped forward into the massive suite and waited for his replacement, who sat in the president’s chair facing away, to turn around. The chair leisurely swung around.
Leonardo saw a familiar blue haired rookie; Ryan had replaced Leonardo in the Legion.

“It’s not personal, the old man offered me the gig and I took it.” Ryan explained as he rose from his seat.

    “What about Antonio?” Leonardo asked.

“The old man trapped him a different dimension I think.” Ryan said as he pulled out a pokeball.

“I don’t want to, who am I kidding, I want to hurt you but I don’t have the time. Give me the azure flute and you can walk away from this.” Leonardo said firmly.

“Don’t make me laugh.” Aaron interrupted. “There’s two of us and one of you.”

“Nice diversion, using Veronica and the other trainers. You do know that they had no chance and that they were going to get cut down mercilessly.” Ryan said with a malicious smile.

“Collateral damage, it’s no chip on my shoulder.” Leonardo said as Darkrai appeared out of his shadow.

“You’ve shown your hand now my turn.” Ryan said as he tossed his pokeball.
The pokeball landed on the ground and unleashed a black energy that formed into a large fox like Pokémon that stood upright. The Pokémon’s body was greyish black and it had a large, red voluminous mane on its head. It also had three red claws on each limb.

“The old man gave you Zoroark.” Leonardo said impressed.

“My turn.” Aaron said as he threw his pokeball.

Aaron’s pokeball spun open and unleashed a bee-like Pokémon with a red and black striped abdomen resembling a ballroom gown. On the underside of the abdomen were honeycomb-like cells. It had black, skinny arms with two orange claws and fly with a pair of small wings on it orange shoulders. Its orange face had intimidating red eyes and a red gem on her forehead.

“That must be the queen the crazy guy mentioned. Aaron’s genetically modified Vespiquen, so that’s how you control the bug Pokémon.” Leonardo said.

“Give the man a prize.”Aaron said clapping his hands.

“Let's use one of your favorites. Zoroark use night slash.” Ryan ordered.

“Vespiquen attack using power gem.” Aaron shouted.

Vespiquen placed its hands together and a glowing orange ball formed between its hands. It then raised its hands and the ball's size grew dramatically. It then fired the ball at the Darkrai. Both of Zoroark's claws started glow crimson and it ran at Darkrai.

“Crap, Darkrai use X-Scissor.” Leonardo ordered.

Darkrai raised its arms and formed a X. Darkrai’s arms began to glow and it used the attack to stop the power gem. A small explosion occurred and Zoroark used the smoke from the explosion to slash Darkrai undetected. The pitch black Pokémon flew back but was able to keep its balance.

“Impossible, how can he use X-Scissor.” Aaron screamed.

“Relax, we still got him beat.” Ryan reassured Aaron.

“The old man turned on me, what makes you sure he won’t do the same to you.” Leonardo asked as he tried to buy himself time.

“Your loyalty was pitiable. You were building your own splinter cell within The Legion. I was unlucky enough to be caught up with you. The old man’s dream for a better world will live through me by your demise.” Ryan announced.

“Enough talk, Vespiquen use attack order.” Aaron ordered.

“Zoroark follow Vespiquen up with flame thrower.” Ryan ordered.

Vespiquen's eyes began to glow red and Combee devotees burst into the suite throw the ventilation and surrounded Darkrai.

“Darkrai take out the Combee with dark pulse.” Leonardo commanded.

Darkrai placed its hands together and formed a ball of black circles. Then the pitch black Pokémon then spun while holding out its hands it firing beams of black circles from the orb at the Combee. The small bug Pokémon were blast out of the air and slammed against the walls.

Zoroark released a red-orange stream of fire from its mouth at Darkrai but the pitch black Pokémon still had enough power from dark pulse to block the attack.

“Attack Vespiquen with ice beam.” Leonardo ordered.

Darkrai formed orb blue energy in its hand and fired beams of energy from the orb at Vespiquen.

“Zoroark block for Vespiquen.” Ryan shouted.

Zoroark just managed to intercept the blue beams of energy.

“Face it, there are some things the great and powerful Leonardo can’t do.” Aaron said as he laughed.

“I’ll block for Aaron and Aaron will block for me.” Ryan said with assurance. “You’re done.”

“Just give me the azure flute and you can live.” Leonardo said.

“You make me laugh, we’d love to give it to you but the old man has it.” Aaron joked. “He is probable already at Sky Pillar.”

“You can’t stop him; the lunar eclipse is almost here.” Ryan said.

“I was saving this for the old man but I guess now’s good enough.” Leonardo said to Darkrai. “Darkrai prepare for the secret move.”

“Let’s see this so-called secret move.” Ryan said intrigued.

“It's a gift from my friend Palkia. Darkrai use Spacial Rend.” Leonardo shouted.

    “No way.” Ryan said trembling.

The red spiky growth around Darkrai’s neck began to glow pink as its eyes glowed orange, and its forearm started to gather glowing pink energy. The pitch black Pokémon let out a roar and then slashed the air releasing a pink crescent blade of energy from its arm at Zoroark, Vespiquen, Aaron and Ryan.

Outside the Pokémon centre the bug Pokémon stopped attacking. Veronica quickly turned to the direction of the Devon Corporation just in time to see a pink light engulf the pent house office before it exploded.

    Chapter 16
The entire bug Pokémon army that had been terrorizing Rustboro City had retreated to the forests on either side of the city. Police from other cities in the Hoenn region were finally able to get to the city. After searching the Devon Corporation they found the beaten Ryan and Aaron along with their Pokémon on what remained of the pent house suite. There was no sign of Leonardo, he was gone.

On the outskirts of Rustboro City, at the beach, Veronica met with Leonardo.

“Where are you going? The city wants to thank you.” Veronica said.

“So when is this lunar eclipse?” Leonardo asked.

“Its tomorrow night but you’re the city’s hero, you must stay.” Veronica responded.

“I’m no hero. Do you have it?” Leonardo asked as he held out his hand.

“Yeah.” Veronica said as she handed Leonardo a pokeball. “You were right; Ryan did deposit a Pokémon into storage six months ago.”

Leonardo threw the pokeball into the air, releasing the Pokémon within. The stream line jet like Pokémon appeared and quickly began to search for its trainer. The blue eon Pokémon looked around before realising that Ryan wasn’t there. Leonardo’s shadow rose up and turned into Darkrai. The pitch black Pokémon stared into the eyes of the eon Pokémon.

“When did Ryan get a Latios?” Veronica asked puzzled.

“You ask too many questions.” Leonardo said before Darkrai blasted Veronica with a dark void.

The black void of energy engulfed the unsuspecting trainer, the energy then disappeared and the unconscious trainer fell to the floor. Leonardo returned Darkrai before signalling Latios. The blue eon Pokémon let out one last saddened cry for Ryan before he climbed onto the eon Pokémon.

“Don’t worry Latios; I’ll be the trainer you’ve always wanted.” Leonardo said as the eon Pokémon took off for the Sinnoh region.

On top of Mount Coronet, the old man prepared for the summoning. He was with Jenny and Winona who had their Articuno and Dragonite ready for any surprise.

“I’ve waited so long for this moment.” The old man said as he basked in the glory of the moment.

“We’ve had the flute for two months now. Why did we have to wait till now to use it?” Winona questioned.

“My simple minded Winona, the azure flute was created as a means of summoning the original one. It was created during the lunar eclipse by the original one. We’ve modified it to control the original one; we need to harness the power of the lunar eclipse to do that.” The old man explained patiently.

“How do you harness eclipse power?” Winona whispered to Jenny confused.
Jenny shrugged her shoulders as they both looked up at the sky.

“We are only a few minutes away from the lunar eclipse.” The old man shouted with joy.

The old man slowly brought the azure flute to his lips and prepared to play. Before the old man could start playing he was struck with a purple beam of energy. The old man’s lifeless body fell to ground, the azure flute shattered upon impact.

High up in the sky Jenny and Winona could see a blue figure descend with Leonardo upon it. When Latios landed Leonardo leapt of the eon Pokémon and threw a pokeball releasing Darkrai.

“You killed him.” Jenny shouted in horror.

“I’m sure there’s another one somewhere around here.” Leonardo joked as he got ready to fight.

“Articuno use ice beam.” Jenny ordered.

“Dragonite use dragon pulse.” Winona shouted.

“Dodge the attacks, and then counter. Latios use a dragon pulse of your own and Darkrai flamethrower.” Leonardo commanded.

A light blue ball formed in front of Articuno's beak. Light blue beams fired from the ball at Latios. Dragonite opened its mouth and a dark blue ball appeared in front of it. The dragon Pokémon then fired the ball at the Darkrai.

Latios flew high into the air with Darkrai and avoided the attacks. When they were high enough, they launched their counter attack. Latios opened its mouth forming a turquoise ball in front of it and fired the ball at the Dragonite. Darkrai placed its hands together and formed a red orb of fire and released a red-orange stream of fire from the orb at Articuno.

Both attacks hit taking out the Legion Pokémon.

“You really are as good as the old man said you were.” A voice from behind a rock said.

The person from behind the rock walked into the moonlight and became visible.

“And you are?” Leonardo asked as Latios and Darkrai returned to his side.

“I’m hurt you don’t recognise me. I’m Samuel Oak; at least I’m a thirty year old version from a different time line.” The man said as he pulled out the real azure flute from behind his back.

Winona and Jenny returned their Pokémon before fleeing.

“The lunar eclipse had begun, the old man knew you would throw a wrench in his plans from way back then but he needed you get as far as he did. He thought he could get rid of you but he was wrong. So now I’ll get rid of you.” Samuel said as he began playing the azure flute.

    “Darkrai stop him.” Leonardo ordered.

The pitch black Pokémon found itself unable to move because of the azure flute. The sound of the azure flute created a force around Samuel that Leonardo could not get through. In the sky, a portal to another universe opened. The portal lit up the night sky as the cries of a Pokémon could be heard.

A large Pokémon was forcefully pulled through the portal. It was an equine like Pokémon. Its body was white with a gray underside. It had four pointed feet which were tipped with gold hooves. It had a golden wheel attached to its body on its round abdomen. The wheel had four jewels attached to it.

“This is Arceus, the original one.” Samuel announced as the Pokémon struggled to fight the control of the azure flute. “The most powerful Pokémon ever.”

As Arceus struggled sixteen plates became visible around the Pokémon.

“You’re going to need more than Darkrai and Latios to beat me.” Samuel said as the azure flute took full control of Arceus.

“I took a little detour to The Legion headquarters before coming here. The old man should have really changed the security codes.” Leonardo said as he pulled out two orbs from behind his back. “These are the Lustrous Orb and Adamant Orb. I guess the old man had no use for them anymore. Palkia, Dialga I summon you!”

Two portals opened behind Leonardo, one pink and the other blue. Palkia emerged out of the pink portal and Dialga out of the blue portal.

“Good, now we’re in for a real battle!” Samuel shouted with joy.

    Chapter 17

“This will be the greatest battle the planet has ever seen but only we will know of it.” Samuel gloated.

“In case you can’t count, I have four legendary Pokémon on my side while you only have one.” Leonardo responded.

“Arceus is the strongest Pokémon in existence. The old man spent years devising plans to capture it.” Samuel said.

“Darkrai use dark pulse, Latios use luster purge, Palkia use Spacial Rend and Dialga use Roar of Time.” Leonardo ordered enraged.

Darkrai placed its hands together and formed a ball of black circles. Then the pitch black Pokémon fired beams of black circles from the orb at the Arceus. The eon Pokémon opened its mouth and gathered a massive ball of purple energy. Latios then fired a beam of energy at Arceus. The pearls on Palkia's shoulders started to glow pink and its forearm starts to gather pink energy. It then slashed the air and released a pink crescent blade of energy at Arceus. The diamond on Dialga’s chest began to glow blue followed by the fins behind it growing larger. Dialga opened its mouth creating a blue ball of energy and firing a beam from it at Arceus.

“Hopeless and pathetic.” Samuel said with a menacing laugh.

The 16 Life Plates began to circle around Arceus's body and create a force field around Arceus's body, protecting it from all the attacks.

“What? Not even a scratch.” Leonardo said in disbelief.

“Amazing isn’t it, the old man discovered the secret of these sixteen ‘life plates’. They protected it from all types of attacks.” Samuel explained. “Arceus, show them your power. Attack with Judgement.”

The wheel on Arceus's body started glows brightly and an orange orb appeared on top of Arceus's head. It then launched the orb into the sky. The orb exploded in the air, releasing hundreds of pink meteors to come crashing down upon Leonardo and his team.

    “Everybody use protect.” Leonardo ordered.

Palkia and Dialga flew above Leonardo and used protect to protect themselves and Leonardo. Darkrai and Latios formed small protects for themselves.

“I know the truth about The Legion but I want to hear you say it.” Leonardo said as Judgement faded away.

“Oh really, what truth may that be?” Samuel asked captivated.

“I know the old man formed The Legion as a way of acquiring the strongest Pokémon of each type.” Leonardo said.

“And you want to know why he did that?” Samuel asked.

“No, I know why. He wanted to capture Arceus using the combine power of The Legion.” Leonardo said as he plotted his next move.

“You’re very well informed.” Samuel replied. “I bet you want to know why he kept The Legion going even though he had the azure flute.”

“Exactly, it makes no sense.” Leonardo said as he prepared for his next attack.

“The Legion was just a backup plan. Actually it was plan C.” Samuel said coldly. “Originally the old man planned to bend time and space to force Arceus to appear but someone told him about an apocalyptic future and his betrayal.”

“I was his plan C.” Leonardo said bitterly as he fell to his knees and pounded his fist into the ground. “I spent every second of my life working for The Legion. Even when I was with Kate, I never stopped.”

“The old man told me about you, the great Leonardo, one of his greatest creations or my greatest creations. This whole being from a different time thing confuses me.” Samuel joked with cruel laughter.

“I will lead The Legion, I will lead them to the future I was promised.” Leonardo screamed wrathfully as he rose to his feet. “But first I have to destroy you!”

“Yes, the fire is back in you. The trainer in me wants you at your best.” Samuel said excitedly.

“Darkrai attack with ice beam, Palkia use hydro pump, Dialga use flash cannon and Latios use shadow ball.” Leonardo shouted.

Darkrai placed its hands together and formed a blue ball of energy between them. It then fired blue beams from the ball at Arceus. Latios opened its mouth and a ball of black energy formed. The eon pokemon then closed its mouth firing the attack at the alpha Pokémon. Palkia blasted a powerful spiralling jet of water from its mouth into the air at Arceus. Dialga opened its mouth and a ball appears in front of its mouth. Dialga then fired a silver beam from the ball at the Arceus.

Again the 16 Life Plates began to circle around Arceus's body and create a force field around Arceus's body, protecting it from all the attacks.

“It’s futile, you can’t get passed Arceus’s life plates but it’s amusing. Arceus use Judgment.” Samuel said.

Again the alpha Pokémon unleashed a powerful pink meteor storm.

The four Pokémon took up the same positions as before and used protect.

“Eventually protect is going to fail.” Samuel said laughing so hard he had to hold himself.

“Get ready team. Here we go again. Darkrai use flamethrower, Palkia use aura sphere, Dialga use ancient power and Latios use sky attack.” Leonardo ordered.

Darkrai placed its hands together and formed a red orb of fire and released a red-orange stream of fire from the orb. Palkia placed its hands together and created a bright pink ball and fired it. Dialga’s body glowed white and the glow drained off its body and formed a white ball above its head. Dialga then fired the ball. Latios's body glowed white and flew at Arceus at top speed following all the other attacks.

Once again Arceus was protected by its life plates. Latios deflected of the force field and returned to Leonardo’s side.

“Don’t let up. Darkrai use sludge bomb. Palkia, Dialga use earth power and Latios use energy ball.” Leonardo ordered.

Darkrai place its hands together and formed a purple orb and fired multiple globs of dark purple sludge from the orb. Palkia and Dialga’s bodies began to glow gold, and the ground under Arceus started to crack and shake with the piece flying up at the alpha Pokémon .Latios opened its mouth and formed a green ball of energy in front of its mouth and fired it.

“I’m getting bored, Arceus finish them with Judgement.” Samuel ordered.

“No, protect won’t work this time. Palkia and Dialga keep us safe with Spacial Rend and Roar of Time.” Leonardo said.

For the third time Arceus unleashed a powerful pink meteor storm but this time the attack was blocked by the combined force of Palkia and Dialga.
Leonardo and his team were running on empty. Exhausted they tried to battle on while Arceus was still fresh.

“Darkrai use signal beam and Latios use charge beam.” Leonardo said.

A pink, light blue, and yellow ball forms between Darkrai's hand and it released a beam of the same colour from the ball at the Arceus. Latios’s body became surrounded by yellow sparks and it fired a massive blast of electricity from its body at the Arceus.

The two beams collided with force field created by the life plates.

“You’re done, you have nothing left.” Samuel said as he prepared to finish the battle.

“When I was little I never had any toys. All I had were puzzles, hundreds of puzzles given to me by old man. These weren’t normal puzzles, they were three dimensional and took days, even months to finish.” Leonardo said exhausted.

“So what, this isn’t a puzzle.” Samuel said.

“Oh but it is. Arceus has sixteen plates but there are seventeen types of Pokémon. The puzzle was finding out which shield Arceus doesn’t have.” Leonardo said with a smirk. “I already attack with sixteen different attacks.”

“No, impossible. The old man assured me Arceus had no weakness.” Samuel said stunned.

“Palkia and Dialga attack with slash. Latios follow up with giga impact.” Leonardo ordered.

Palkia and Dialga summoned on whatever strength they had left and flew at Arceus. When they in striking distance their claws began glowing and they swiped at the alpha Pokémon giving Latios an opening. Latios's body became surrounded by an orange sphere of energy. The orange colour soon changed to purple, with orange streaks of energy that spiral around the orb. Latios then slammed into Arceus.

“That was good but you don’t have a normal move powerful enough to beat Arceus.” Samuel said nervously.

    “Darkrai use Judgement!” Leonardo shouted.

Samuel’s face turned grey with disbelief. “Impossible!” he shouted.

“I guess the old man didn’t tell you. He genetically modified Darkrai to be able to replicate any move it sees.” Leonardo said before signalling the pitch black Pokémon.

Darkrai's whole body glowed brightly as it raised its hands. An orange orb appears on top of its hands. It then launches the orb into the sky, leaving behind orange streaks as it fires. The orb then explodes in the air, releasing hundreds of black meteors to come crashing into Arceus. The alpha Pokémon collapsed in defeat.

“How ironic, the old man’s plan to become the most powerful trainer was foiled by someone he raised to help carry out the plan.” Samuel said as he fell to the ground.

Palkia and Dialga both launched their signature attacks on Samuel destroying him and the azure flute. Free from Samuel’s control Arceus crawled back into its own dimension. Satisfied that time and space were now safe, Palkia and Dialga returned to their home dimensions as well.

Leonardo fell to the ground in disbelief, everything he had work towards his whole life was a lie. As he lay on the ground he had a moment of clarity.

“Darkrai, Latios, now that the old man is gone as well as his younger self, The Legion will be in chaos. It’ll be up to us to put the pieces together build the organisation back up. Are you with me?” Leonardo asked the Pokémon.
The pitch black Pokémon and the eon Pokémon both nodded in agreement.

The sun slowly rose over Mount Coronet as Leonardo pulled himself to his feet.

“The dawn of a new day brings with it renewed hope. The flaws of humanity will fall as The New Legion rise!”
