# Thread: Interesting Physics Question

1. ## Interesting Physics Question

I came up with this question, and asked a few of my friends, and none where able to answer it, well, at all, until I asked my physics teacher. Question is if you where to make a box, that if pressure is applied to it it would make electricity and, dropped it into an ocean trench, where the pressure of the water would make the electricity, where would that energy be coming from? After a few days I finally questioned by teacher. His answer is very interesting. The energy comes from the water pressure, around the box, which comes from the displaced water, which comes from the act of the box falling to the bottom of the ocean, which comes from gravitational potentail energy, which comes from the formation the continents, where the box's parts where formed above the ocean.

2. worst grammar of all time.

please re-write it in such a way that we can understand it

3. fixed to the best ability that Kirby can

4. I get the answer but not the question

5. where does the compressed energy around the box come from?

6. The pressure from the ocean duh

7. Basic fluid-principle: Pressure.

And they said I suck at physics -____-

8. kirbx, the weight of the water pushes on the box.

pushing on the box makes energy

problem solved

water pressure= weight of the water pushing on an object from any/all sides

9. yeah

I didn't get that at first

Um...

11. fluid dynamics= best high school class i ever had.

12. Yeah, the answer to this question was simple if you know anything about water.

That same pressure is why you must swim slowly while scuba diving and why we can only go so deep while scuba diving.

13. I know what water pressure is. I just didn't know where the energy came from.

14. ... from the pressure.

15. well definitely that energy comes from water pressure..

16. Andrea01 has spoken

17. which comes from...

18. water pressure comes from water pushing evenly on all sides of the box, which is the result of intermolecular attraction between the water molecules. this is something you learn when youre 12; are you retarded?

19. -_-

yes I know what water pressure is and how it work Jesus Christ people

all I didn't know was where that energy came from

20. uh. the question was around a box that made energy when you added pressure to any side of it right?

or, were you asking how water, while supplying weight on the box, creates energy?

well, lets look at it like this...

its not really creating energy, but releasing potential energy. its like what happens when you step on an open tube of toothpaste. it comes flying out. the act of flying was the released potential energy into kinetic energy. it comes from the act of the paste wanting to go to the point with the least amount of pressure (or energy). its called dynamic fission, and it is the easiest to grasp concept in all of science.

ex: a glass filled with water is turned at a 45 degree angle. the water will not stay in the same position in relation to the glass because it would have more force acting on the top of the water because of gravity, so it evens out. water goes from a high concentration of force to a low concentration of force.

DONE

21. yes

I know that know.

After I asked by teacher.

That was what I said in the begining.

22. Kirbx are you retarded? Obviously the displacement of the water would cause it to gain energy that it then pushes upon the box with. You must be mentally handicapped to not know this sort of layman's puzzle. You are such a pathetic little imbecile I can hardly bare to share the same forum with somebody of your mental capacity, let alone engage in such an intellectual conversation.

How many times has he been asked this?

24. I am sure a retarded person does not know that. Considering an average person can't even shade in America.

you're proud of that statistic, aren't you?
