    Default Rotom (Normal Form)

    Rotom (Normal Form)

Stright up looking at rotom-noís stats you might want to banish this to the land of RU maybe NU if your harsh. But rotom-n has an interesting niche in the UU tier boasting 2 physical immunities sometimes replacing entirely your physical walls and a decent move pool that allows for your to either with with stab thunderbolt or shadow ball which few pokemon outside of steelix entirely resist. And it doesnít like a hidden power fighting or ground to the face.

    HP: 50
    Attack: 50
    Defense: 77
    Sp. Attack: 95
    Sp. Defense: 77
    Speed: 91

    Substitute and Pain Split Annoyer
    Item: Life Orb
    Ability: Levitate
    Nature: Timid
Evs: 252 Sp. Attack 6 Defense 252 Speed
    -substitute
    -pain split
    -thunderbolt/discharge
    -shadow ball

This set allows rotom to do one of the best things it can do: annoy. In UU where many physical threats idea of a decent move pool consists of return brick break/earthquake and sucker punch it can switch into any return earthquake or close combat you want and combat with annoyingness. In UU with lackluster move pools most pokemonís only move for this thing is sucker punch and thatís when you just put up the substitute and it fails. The you get a free turn for whatever while they have to switch out or find an attack against it. Rotom also does well against walls like registeel who all it can do is toxic it and thatís when your substitute up and then its screwed. And if they lets say manage to set up a toxic on your you can then pain split them and with Rotomís lack luster HP it does well to heal and to stall. Substitute also does one other thing which with they have a pursuit trapper you can successfully switch with out losing rotom for a measly 25% HP which is nothing compared to the health gained from pain split. If they decide to switch out then you have a substitute up and can fire off 2 strong stab moves.Discharge can be used over thubderbolt in the spirit of annoyingness for parahax. 252 speed and timid allow you to outspeed base 90s by one speed point thanks to its nifty 91 speed stat. The rest goes into attack to have shadow ball and thunderbolt hit hard even more so with life orb.

    Charge Beamer
    Item: Leftovers
    Ability: Levitate
    Nature: Timid
Evs: 252 Sp. Attack 6 Defense 252 Speed
    -charge beam
    -substitute
    -shadow ball
    -thunderbolt/hidden power ground

This set is similar to the plan behind the first set but instead of walling physical attackers its job here is ore for walls and to wall them out and kill them. How? Charge beam baby. Just come in on a registeel attack like seismic toss and then substitute up and proceed to charge beam spam. It can also work well against physical attackers but usually its much more effective on walls who will allow this to happen to them until its too late. Worth case scenario here you force a switch with registeel or some other wall and then do hefty damage on whatever comes in best case scenario you sweep whole teams. This works well in the late game once all fast revenge killers are gone. Substitute allows you to charge beam freely and to not be fodder for pursuiters. Shadow ball is a good stab and thunderbolt is a stronger stab move then charge beam once you get a few boosts or you can do with hidden power ground for better coverage. The evs maximize rotomís speed to sweep and then sp. Attack for power. If you wish though you can add more bulk here from the sp. Attack to have your substitute take hit from registeel if they run like ice punch. Leftovers aids in substitute making.

    Trickster
    Item: Choice Scarf/Choice Specs
    Ability: Levitate
    Nature: Timid
Evs: 252 Sp. Attack 6 Defense 252 Speed
    -trick
    -shadow ball
    -thunderbolt
    -hidden power ground

This is possibility rotomís best set here. As with the first set rotom can easily switch in on most physical attacks ironically. Choice specs allows it to hit real hard on whatever comes in or scarf to act as a revenge killer. Trick allows you to totally cripple walls that donít switch. And if you do with specs you can also use it on physical attackers on a switch in turn and cripple them too. Shadow ball and thunderbolt are the main stab and coverage options. Hidden power ground hurts steelix which is the only total counter in UU as well as magneton and lanturn. The evs and nature allow your to out speed base 90s. If you have a scarf you can out speed 90s and lower with scarfs and without just base 90s but you have a lot of power. Another option though is 124 speed with a modest nature with choice scarf as its allows your to outspeed base 120s which is good and you can still have modest and a tad more bulk.

    Other Options:
-Other hidden powers are options but they are highly situational. Hidden power grass kills of absol and aids in registeel killing. Hidden power grass hurts rhyperroir hard and kills of Donphan.
-thunder wave and willow-wisp and be used to spread around status but it rarely can get a slot for it
-you can set up rain and sun rain deserves special mention because of thunder
-Volt charge acts like some sort of U-turn but again gernally rotom has better things to do
-Sucker punch is priority. And outside of that its pretty awful.
-Signal beam hurts grass types but generally the looming magneton and steelix counters are bigger worries

    Team Options
-Forcing many switches and late game sweeping rotom likes entry hazards.
-Rotom is on many pokemonís status hit list for toxic and thubder wave. So a status absorber is a good option.
-Any set has issues with pursuiters. Some noteable pokemon are Drapion and Absol. Whatever pokemon deals with those.
-Rotom needs walls on the special side because unlike physical attacks you commonly donít find aura sphere and earth power in UU and is again ironically weak there.

    Counters:
    -faster sweepers
-unless there feeling risky with charge beam then special walls
    -steelix
-any sets lacking substitute and even them a bit are pursuit fodder
-bulky pokemon and with the choice set dark types for shadow ball and grass types for thunderbolt
