let's talk about lyrics

lyrics make a song good for me. yeah sure i'll rave to the drowningly phat beats of Fatboy Slim but for it to really elevate itself as a personal preference it needs meaningful lyrics.

although 'meaning' for me is aesthestic and it doesn't mean something I can write on my bedroom wall next to my John Cena poster. i tend to define meaningful as either meaningful or 'meaningless', but with a passionate, cryptic kind of meaninglessness the way that certain singers sing certain words for me is blissful, and the way they go with melodies is divinely complementary, so in the end I don't give a brass that they are are meaningless!

anyway, here are some of my favourite abridged lyrics. i'm using this thread to post particular stanzas that I like, but if you feel that wouldn't capture the essence of the song then feel free to post it all.

from David Bowie, "Quicksand". to me it's enough to listen to the song over and over again. quite a simple, thought-provoking, summarily executed articulation of existentialist nihilist philosophy. but who cares about that, it makes you think for days. human beings have no purpose other than death, david bowie here arguing that it is at this moment where the 'knowledge' we have been searching for becomes meaningless and the true 'knowledge' will come when our lives our stripped of us, which would be no knowledge, if you get my drift.
