Let's organize an Art Contest!

Yep.

Input is highly encouraged, and interest in such is valued! As the host of such a contest, I will say that prizes will be involved, and judgment shall be fair and determined by a panel of judges.

I would like this to be as simple as possible, with 2-3 categories. Spriting will definitely be one of them, with Drawing being an almost definite second. Ideas for a possible third category are welcome, but remember that we want to keep this simple. Themes are also welcomed ideas. Perhaps a 'New Evolution' contest, or a 'Create your own Pokemon' contest? Who knows? Once we can whittle down concrete details, the contest shall commence!

For right now, I think Graphics is classified under Art. I don't quite know who is in charge of the Art section right now, but it's a good recommendation.

Kirby, what exactly will you be working on? Just taking ideas right now, but if you need time to think....

Can't say that I do Justin. A while back, a lot of people used to, but you don't see too much of that nowadays. Matter of fact, I just don't think there is anyone else anymore. :/

With Photoshop? I don't think so, at least in Ed's case. He's mostly a spriting guy, which involves no use of PS at all. I can't say that I know much about PK's abilities, but I'm pretty sure I haven't seen anyone use PS for anything.

Actually, thinking about older members that are sort of active still, I'm pretty sure Ninetails and Peeki were among the few that did things like that.

In regards to it, the only person I really knew to use Photoshop would be Peeki. Haven't seen him do anything recently, but what I saw when he did was good.

Ed uses paint mostly, or a paint-like thingy. Maybe GIMP. Or Paint.net.

I use mostly Paint and Fireworks. Fireworks only for transparency's sake, however.

So, for the record, Kirby, I don't think either Ed nor I use Photoshop, or 'try', as you put it.

Wait I'm confused. Were you asking PK and Ed to join? Pfffft, man it's going to be a long day for me....sorry, just ignore that last post Kirby. You can use Paint; I thought you were talking about PK and Ed using Photoshop to do their spriting.

ive finished my entry for gastrodon evo already. i'm coming up with a name lol

ideas for entry categories:

1. pixelation/sprite
2. abstract design (including physical arts and collages)
3. illustrations (hand-drawn and non-pixel guided artwork)
4. miscellaneous

sounds like fun. i'd be in on it of course all i can do currently is hand-drawn. (I pray to the computer gods every day for photoshop or something of the like...)

I will more than likely include a Drawing category, since not everyone is keen on Pixel art, and hand drawn art is acceptable.

If you still want suggestions for ideas on what to do...;

Retype a Pokemon as another type.
Take an everyday house item and make a Pokemon based on it (no rotom-like pokemon allowed).
Combine two Pokemon, one of one type, and one that is weak to that type.
Make a new evolution of a Pokemon, adding another type (if it's originally only one type)/changing a current type (if it's already a two type Pokemon).
Create a Pokemon with an entirely new type.
Create a Pokemon with a unique type combination.
Combine a trainer with a Pokemon.

(Most of these are ones I thought of with Spriting in mind, but they should work for any other type of medium too.)
