–noun
devoted love, support, and defense of one's country; national loyalty.
Nationalism
1.) national spirit or aspirations.
2.) devotion and loyalty to one's own nation; patriotism.
3.) excessive patriotism; chauvinism.
...you were saying?
i think the terms are pretty much interchangeable. i dont know where you got that distinction.
Also this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patriotism
It has had different meanings over time and its meaning is highly dependent upon context, geography, and philosophy. Excluding differences caused by these dependancies, Patriotism is a devotion to one's country. In a generalized sense that applies to all countries and peoples, patriotism is a devotion to one's country for no other reason than being a citizen of that country.
It is a related sentiment to nationalism, but nationalism is not necessarily an inherent part of patriotism
.nationalism

The country of Ireland is divided, any true patriot would want it made whole again. So nationalist or patriot, either way, England needs to get out and let the Irish have Ireland.
The government has been infiltrated by the British supporters. Spineless twits who lick so much tea-drinker asshole as to be unable to speak or even think without first asking their British overlord's opinion.
Any true patriot would ignore their government officials and SEEK A UNITED IRELAND ONCE AND FOR ALL.
i'm in the us army serving my country. i'm pretty patriotic but totally agree with PK on this. the us was founded on secular ideals and many of our founding fathers were deist who's god were more like Spinoza or were atheist. considering how in england everyone had to be the kings religion at the time, it's no wonder that the us wanted to be secular.
it does surprise me that america has become the most christian nation while the people of england have a secular mindset.
