During the Punic Wars we'll also rule out the legendary birds, Porygon. The Roman's MIGHT have access to Magnemite through the Greeks...and every soldier wouldn;t be packing a pokemon... they'd be limited to special units and leaders most likely.. in the same manner that every soldier didn't own a horse...

I don't see pokemon in war at all really accept the useful ones you can tame, like Rapidash, Tauros and, Donphan. Outside of that though, no, we don't use squirrels in war becuase they are just bad, its probably not worth the effort, and who says they can tame them like they do now? Its possible that up until the pokeballs, very few pokemon where tamed.

Well you have to consider that up until recent times, only Kanto was well known, the others still existed but they where probably simple like Africa or the Americas.
we're saying Our world Kirby... not the default Pokemon universe...and Pokemon in the series at least have shown that they can all be pretty much domesticated.
