    Default Rayne

    I asked my friend for some names of good books for Quantum Mechanics.

    He's doing a BSc in Physics now, and he said to warn you that it's a complex subject so you should start slow and build up the basics before expecting to be all up in the concepts.
    Here are some books he recommended:

    * Classical Mechanics - Goldstein
    * Introduction to Electrodynamics - David J Griffiths

    These are just the basics really, it's up to you to read them if you want, but you need to know and to have understood everything in these books. He said to pay attention to the Hamiltonian Equation, and have a good idea about Vector Calculus, Differential Geometry and Vector Analysis.

    After all that preliminary work-

    The special Theory of Relativity- David Bohm
    Introduction to General Relativity- Lewis Ryder
    Introduction to Quantum Mechanics - David J Griffiths
    Principles of Quantum Mechanics- R Shankar (Indian author, not sure if you'll be able to find it)

    These are basically the textbooks that give you a good idea about the subject.

    Also, if you're not looking specifically for textbooks, these are a few books you can pick up just to get the general idea of the subject:

    Relativity,Simply Explained- Martin Gardner
    The Elegant Universe- Brian Greene
    In search of Schrodinger's cat- John Gribbin

    with my shitty-ass internet connection in my new apartment i really dont want to have to wait a couple hours for the thing to download. i have however started watching lectures on stanford's youtube channel by leonard susskind (pretty cool since he was also in the documentary i watched; hes considered one of the fathers of string theory APPARENTLY). ive only watched lecture 1 of general relativity so far and, in regards to the mathematics and the theory, its stuff i already know but the way he explains is great; i started thinking about gravity in a different way. stanford has always been by first choice for college in the us because it kicks ass in computer science but now im considering double majoring and going for physics too. assuming i get in of course. which i doubt i will.
