Kelsi, we all know you have a wide range of associates that are acid users, but that really doesn't help your argument against acid being harmful. Peer reviewed studies do show that acid effects the human body in ways MOST people would consider harmful. Hey maybe some people don't think having a smaller penis size is a harmful effect of steroids, but I think MOST people would. You may think that having ones vision permanently altered is not a negative but MOST do. And that's but one example. I'm assuming though that you feel that the majority of the effects that HAVE been proven to happen when using acid aren't harmful, that being the case, you are in the minority.

I have been saying HOW but it's obvious that you don't think the effects of acid are negative, like one's vision being permanently altered.

Clearly that's not what the aforementioned quote describes, but nonetheless having potential flashbacks that cause a constant risk factor for the rest of a persons life is a detrimental effect of LSD that is silly to over look.

He should at least see the effect his behaviour is having on your mum- and realise what he's doing is just plain wrong. Seriously, if he doesn't.... I have no sympathy for him. I just really think you should talk to him. Straight up.

I definitely think he's fallen into the wrong crowd; he's always had a habit of being 'the follower' in the group; the term 'if they jumped off a cliff...' was made for people like my brother, because I reckon he seriously would. And I've definitely tried talking, it's hard when everything my parents are saying is true, so when I repeat it I guess he thinks we're all against him, if only he knew we're on his side too.

when he does fuck his life up he will come back begging for a second chance and you'll tell him to go fuck himself. tell him that -- if it doesn't slap him in the face right now, it definitely will in the future.

seriously i have no idea. he acts like he doesn't give a fuck about anything but he's definitely got problems. can you think of anything that happened this summer, during the holidays -- when he started to break down? there's surely something behind this but i doubt he'll tell you what.

Yeah, the "leave and don't bother coming back" strategy is what we're trying out now, but I think my mum just can't make herself let him go. Something won't go his way, he walks out the door, but when he inevitably comes crawling back mum greets him with warm arms because she worried sick about what he's been doing and is just glad to see him okay and all is well for a few days before something else comes up and the whole fucking cycle starts all over again. She still sees him as her baby, and it's her instinct to try and protect him (and me) and that's whats making this situation so much harder.

As for what caused I think he just fell in with the wrong crowd. Sounds simple but I think that's just what it is, he always needs to follow the latest trend and get appreciation from everyone for being "cool" (in the most dickish way possible).

I understand your mum's point of view... I'd have probably been the same way in her place. Have you straight up talked to him yet? I really think he needs someone he looks up to, or admires to give him some advice- and I know you said shrinks don't make a difference, but that's because he sees them as just that. Shrinks.

You should tell him what he's doing to your mum. Since he keeps coming back, he clearly still values his family somewhere inside. Is he so far gone that he doesn't even care how he's impacting the family?

It CAN cause Flashbacks which seems like it could seriously suck, but they are minor and if you aren't regularly using it, the risk of flashbacks decreases after about a month I think? It CAN cause mental disorders but it's rare, MORE likely if there is a history of mental illness and regular use of the drug. It causes a bad reaction with MAOIs so that's a definate negative and also it SHOULD not be used during pregnancy as it can cause uterine contractions. Bad trips are always a possible negative outcome but most any mind altering substance has that potential. It's just anxiety and nothing fatal.

I say legalize it.... just like any number of currently illegal drugs... regulate it and tax it to help get us out of economic shit holery....

SHadow... sorry to hear about your brother. Many people would advocate 'tough love' in the situation and it isn't out of the question, but I still think you should be supportive and try to find ways to help him out... turn him away from the bad crowd or whatever...

Well DUH it CAN harm you. The whole argument revolves around whether there are adverse effects on certain drugs. My stance is that saying that there are none for some of them is foolish and quite naive.

Here is my opinion on alcohol though, it will NEVER be illegal. It's to engrained in our culture and history to be able to do so.

Qoorl has it right. I'm not an expert on this topic but saying there are no adverse effects from any drug is just stupid. Qoorl states the middle ground and I'm willing to agree with it more or less without doing further research myself.

The whole tax thing is an entirely different discussion altogether.
