I understand your mum's point of view... I'd have probably been the same way in her place. Have you straight up talked to him yet? I really think he needs someone he looks up to, or admires to give him some advice- and I know you said shrinks don't make a difference, but that's because he sees them as just that. Shrinks.

You should tell him what he's doing to your mum. Since he keeps coming back, he clearly still values his family somewhere inside. Is he so far gone that he doesn't even care how he's impacting the family?

I'm pretty he thinks we've all ganged up against him, me included; he won't listen to anything I say, believe me on that. Oh, and he only comes back home if his mates kick him out and doesn't have anywhere else to go; otherwise we'd never see him. But I do believe there's still some shred of goodness in him, cliche'd as that may sound, I honestly do believe it. But goodness or not, if this keeps up we're going to have to take drastic measures...if only he could see that we're trying to HELP him...
