But most of the spambots don't create threads or post links, blaaaaaaah. They post vague comments in existing threads with links in their signature.

No, they will just make 10 posts saying "thanks," like they already do, then link spam. How about this: you limited to only post in the new poster forum until you can be approved that your real. If not that, disable posting all together until they PM pichubro or ninetails, saying they are real.

Couldn't we remove e-mail verification? Might work.
Why not have captcha's? I believe this site shows that it is possible with a simple addon to the forum:

Adding the addon to the forum makes it so that bots who cannot answer the captcha cannot have their application submitted. As well, recaptcha is sufficiently difficult to decipher so that no bot could do it.

captchas are retarded. vb already has a captcha system that bots find terribly easy to get past. the best solution would be one or two custom questions on the registration page relating to pokemon that pokemon fans would be able to answer, non-pokemon fans could google and bots wouldnt have any idea what to do with.

Hey, that is actually remarkably brilliant. Just something simple like "Who's that pokemon?" accompanied by a Pikachu sprite or so would be quite effective.

It can't be just Pikachu, the bots will break through that, we would need some sort of captcha that cycled through pokemon.
well there are quite a few pokemon that we have, 5 generations now. So thats not so difficult.
