my internal battery on my pokemon sapphire just died, i have a couple questions
1- will changing the battery delete my save?
2- can i just go home and change the clock so the tides will be high in that cave?

Your both wrong. There is no battery, its a glitch, the only games with batteries are gen 2 games. But the programmers for wanted to have one originally for gen 3 games. So its in the basic programing, eventually a glitch will happen and you game will go "wow I need a battery," even though it never had one.
There are 2 ways to fix this:
-trade with a firered or leafgreen game, it downloads a packet in trade to fix the glitch
-nothing because its not important to the game at all to grow berries or go in that cave
