My friends seem to like it, and they really shouldn't. The fighting games seem pretty badass though imo.
what's really sad is when I was in fourth grade I liked it, but then one day I thought to myself, "why am I watching this? it has no plotline, no character development, nothing. It's just a bunch of moaning and groaning and 'ohhh i can't beat this enemy." Basically the entire storyline goes like this:
An enemy comes.
Goku and friends can't beat him.
They lie on the ground nearly dead as they groan and moan about how strong the villain is.
Goku gets a burst of energy and kills the enemy
New enemy comes.
Cycle repeats.
It was actually Gohan. He was the main character of the saga.

Gohan was not the main character of most of it. Most of the series Gohan was a snivelling little brat who cried "Daaaaaaadddddy" and then occasionally let out a huge amount of energy. Goku did the fighting.
I used to love watching the original Dragonball.
The rest of the series was, like Walrus pointed out, very repetitive and only pleased people who love watching fists fights with an occasional super power.
Look it up- he wasn't the most powerful, but everything centered around him at the end of the fights.
He beat Raditz.
Because Goku used him to deflect the Spirit Bomb they defeated Vegeta.
Goku did get Freiza.
Androids along with Trunks.
Cell.
Boo.. that was just a fucked up saga.
Basically, the creators stated he was the main character damnit. He's the only one that never died and was there as a fighter.

why the fuck are we talking about dragon ball z? All I remember was some fat guy eating people and things on there and I never ever watched it again...
Gohan was the key in that series. Go look that shit up- the creators said it in some segment at the end of I want to say perhaps the World Tree movie? Goku was probably the main of GT but i never watched it in its entirity.
I watched alot of Z/GT and DB about a year ago. Personally i liked the boo saga..

The Cell Saga was definitely my favorite.
Keep in mind, I never really watched the American versions- you miss to much when you don't hear the original voices and whatnot. Dubbing dulls all the sound.
His transformation to Jin2 was fucking amazing in Japanese.

New Rule:
As long as "Fantasy Sports" exists, there can be no nerds of regular fantasy, such as D&D.
The old rule was if you fantasize about sex or sports, you're a man. If you fantasize about sex with a shapely elf princess, you're a loser. Same concept different circumstances.
Fantasy about Leia in the gold bikini from star wars 6 is hot apparently, even though it's still nerdy because it's star wars.
Sports games, MANLY. Unrealistic games like Warcraft, nerdy. Same concept, they are video games, different ones though.

It goes back to something i always say, if you want to talk shit about someone's hobbies then tell me something you do so i can talk shit too.
