Pure socialism will never work because a necessary side-effect of it is devaluing a nation's currency and that results in terrible, terrible things, like the Wiemar Republic. I like a lot of things about socialism but in the end a person's wealth is his own and the government shouldn't just overtly distribute it. Things like social security are a really good idea, but pure unadulterated socialism will never work.

Most of the time the problem with socialism is people that refuse to have a balanced budget, if you have some (ironically) conservative socialists in charge of cutting things when they need to be cut, there should be no problem.

Unless your talking about some more elaborate economic pitfall, which I would gladly discuss the intricacies of with you. I don't think the statement of total socialism is terrible is accurate though, since there are plenty of countries in Europe that work fine on a socialist system.

    Like who?

And I was talking about monetizing debt, such as the US is currently doing. Which having a balanced budget would go a long way toards solving. Not just a balnaced budget but actually paying back debt.

Unless some kind of shit happened recently that I am unaware of, Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands, ect, were all doing fine.

monetizing debt is basically printing a bunch of currency in order to make your debts smaller relative to money supply. makes debts easy to pay off but ruins the purchasing power of money. this isnt happening. a lot of people conflate the fact that the government has spent huge sums of money on bank bailouts but its not the same thing.

people also conflate the fact that many things are getting more expensive with the government printing money but thats not at work either. the fact is food is more expensive due to environmental concerns and oil is more expensive due to supply and political concerns. its not a monetary phenomenon because in international money markets the US dollar is still reasonable strong and considered a good store of value relative to basically all other major currencies. shit is getting more expensive everywhere because many inputs are becoming scarcer.

not to mention the fact that so much wealth and credit was destroyed in the recession inflation is almost impossible because having more hard money will be negated by having less credit and other stores of wealth like stocks and real estate becoming wiped out.

in short people who dont understand economics should stop talking about it.

I know gas prices are just universally high, but the dollar is falling in international markets because the US refuses to be fiscally responsible. Things are cheaper here than everywhere else because we're the world reserve currency, if that changes we're pretty much screwed. And that's a very real possibility.
