The Singaporean system is alright, it's what the British used to be like

What's so good about it? I tried to find out but so far it sounds about the same as ours. (i.e mine)

Every single student in Singapore is intensely mathematically literate.

Yes, but what are the policies behind it?

They do that everywhere. ( or are supposed to do that everywhere )

I thought we were talking about systems.

yeah i heard they learn calculus in 10th grade. still, i dont think that really qualifies as a merit. even indian students are intensely 'mathematically literate' by western standards but the indian system is dreadful. also i dont think singapore does that well in olympiads.

Education is a subtle thing. The American system just has a bunch of classes which don't teach you anything. The British system neglects to teach you much any more - the exam boards are corrupt, you're given what to write in an exam before you go in, and mathematics has become way too easy. The qualifications in this country are an utter sham and fail to test any intellectual qualities beyond regurgitating an essay you've already written about 10 times. Singapore doesn't do this, therefore it wins.

I don't think any education system is perfect, but the Singapore//China systems, which involve extremely rigorous learning instead of teachers panicking and just trying to get you corrupt qualifications so the school isn't shut down, are empirically but not subjectively the best.

Well, rote learning is common here as well, but people generally have more of a foundation in different subjects than say, someone in America who never took classes in a bunch of subjects.

I read about the Chinese system. It sounds like ours a little, only every single child is driven to get marks unlike only the "toppers" here. Rather unhealthy.

tbh i dont really think anyone can speak to the merits or criticise any education system unless they are / have been enrolled in it. bill gates once gave a speech at the indian institute of technology and said american schools should be more like the ones in india. LOL.

I've wanted to be the Educational Commissioner or something a few times just so I can reform our system, it's an utter shambles

be sure to leave the U.K. quickly as you might be beaten up by a guy who looks like Justin Bieber. that's the only consequence I can think of.
