only ever knew my grandfather on my moms side. hes rich as shit and was an IBM sales manager during the 50s-70s. not like mansion rich but he's been retired since i've been born, has maintained a reasonably expensive life style and recently just flat out bought a house feet away from a beach. that whole side of my family is rich, one of my grandfather's brothers went to yale law school etc.

You know how a company has to get an envirmentalist's approval before he can build something legaly, my Grandfather does that and makes a shit ton of money. About 10,000 per approval, he does one every week.

Mom's dad died when she was 13.
Her mom is absolutely nuts and isn't a normal grandma. Her step-dad is a huge pot head.
My dad was adopted when he was young and then his whole adopted family died when he was 17.

I was never able to meet my grandparents. My mother's father died before I was born. I've spoken to my maternal grandmother on the phone when I was younger. My father's mother is dead now although I think I may have spoken to her once (maybe twice but still only over the phone) and my father hasn't spoken to his father since he was a teenager.

my Dad's mom lives in a retirement home and watches Fox News all day, and is convinced that they hate Rick Santorum because he's a conservative. She loves Rick Santorum.

My Mom's parents are both still alive, my Pap is really curmudgeonly and had a quadruple bypass a few years ago, and my Grandma makes the best damn cookies and spaghetti in the world. They have a pool where my friends and I frequently hang over the summer.

both my grandmothers died this past year.
one of my grandfathers has alzheimers really bad and thinks i'm my mom.
my other grandfather cheated on his wife with her nurse maid while she was on her death bead. then moved the "care giver" into his house with the pretenses that she would give him "care", bought her a car, and disowned the rest of my family. he's an ass.
