GOD I read some of Marx's books (Gotha Programme, Civil War in France, and some of Das Kapital) and I honestly can't see why you don't like his work. I usually can't read books and what have you, but Marx (And Engels) is so straightforward and information dense that it's hard to put it down

i thought the communist manifesto was readable and more or less interesting but kapital was a chore, and i havent tried anything beyond that

If you're planning on reading anything beyond that, I'd recommend the Civil War in France. Although it's more of an overview of the Paris Commune, it's definitely worth reading if you know nothing about that chapter of history
