    however paradoxical it may seem, facebook would lose more users if it didn't change constantly

    people would get bored of facebook and leave it for alternatives unless it changed constantly. it requires variation. that's why myspace went the way of the dodo.

    I don't understand why though. I would think there would be more comfort in familiarity.

    Facebook isn't there for comfort, it's there for self-validation and to add spice to the social experience - and variety is the proverbial spice of life.

    Myspace also went down because it had the sigmas of pedophiles using it find kids, and the emo kids with their bad HTML.

    I'm sure there is a way to keep it 'fresh' without remapping the whole website. I prefer useability over looks, and for me, timeline is a downgrade in usability.

    It's like if Wikipedia decided to make all their links green/red, put the search bar on the bottom of the screen, moved the side menu to the top of the screen and organized the data without much care for relevance.

    I hate change okay. ;_;

    You're once again making the assumption that all humans are as rational and think as straightforward as you do, Pichubro. The majority of consumers in the world are stupid people who leave something when they get the slight bit bored with it. When facebook changes the timeline people get angry at it, yes, but being angry at facebook is always better than just ignoring it from a company's point of view.

    The other reason Facebook made the shift to timeline is because their main competition is from Twitter, the other big social networking client. Twitter is entirely grounded in the present, what's going on here and now. In order to compete with that, Facebook decided to switch over to a format that focuses more on a person's history. By turning it into a presentational format - almost like a resume - Facebook is able to take advantage of your insecurities by making you constantly clean it up, and is also able to act as a person's whole life on display, and something others will judge you by - making it ubiquitous.

    And that's why when it finally makes an Initial Public Offering it will have the biggest IPO value in the history of ever.

    This makes sense and I hate that it makes sense. I want to go back to the time of livejournals and geocities and albinoblacksheeps. Less business, more fun.

    Contrary to popular belief, Dodos went extinct because rats ate them.

    When humans first arrived on Mauritius, they also brought with them other animals that had not existed on the island before, including dogs, pigs, cats, rats, and Crab-eating Macaques, which plundered the dodo nests, while humans destroyed the forests where the birds made their homes;[47] the impact these animals—especially the pigs and macaques—had on the dodo population is currently considered to have been more severe than that of hunting. The 2005 expedition's finds are apparently of animals killed by a flash flood; such mass mortalities would have further jeopardized a species already in danger of becoming extinct.
