should they be made stricter or laxer
should they be made stricter or laxer
the quality of life that people in first world countries enjoy was made possible through the pillaging of wealth and resources from a lot of the countries which are represented through immigrants. so in my opinion entitled westerners who complain about immigration laws can go fuck themselves.
Laxer for people that want to come in legally. Like there should be a much easier path for people who live in places like the UAE or Mexico to become citizens because the US IS a nation of immigrants. However, I do think we need to tighten up our boarders to stop the flow of illegals.
there should be no separation of people with borders
yeah this is an important point to consider. 'morally' you would have to conclude that immigration from low income nations should be completely unrestricted, but practically it wouldn't work because there are not enough systems/resources to deal with a considerable influx of population.
Illegal immigrants do not wholly bother me at first.
It's when they live here for forty years without learning English or becoming a citizen when it bothers me.
everyone would become a citizen if it wasnt difficult to do and maybe its hard to learn a language huh pichubro
Forty years though!
And I don't care if they can't speak fluently, but some don't even care enough to learn the basics like names for stuff, or road names.
Whatever.
can illegal immigrants really become citizens
that isnt meant to be some sort of rhetorical question. im genuinely curious. wont they just be deported if they apply for citizenship?
They can, but it's really, really hard.
Usually they have find a way to apply for a green card. Yes, there is always the risk of being deported, and more often than not, they won't become a full citizen. But if they have a relative who is a citizen of the US, it's easier. I believe if someone has a green card for seven years they can become a full citizen.
If they marry a full citizen, they can become a full citizen eventually too, but this only works if the illegal immigrant entered the country legally. (This usually means that they were supposed to leave the country at some point and didn't)

Oh so you're a REAL conservative, like, "wants to bring back the feudal ages" conservative?
You do realize the North one the war on small government.
that's not WHY they won...
shiggity shiggity shwa
yeah, it's really ridiculous how some people can live in a country and never learn the language. One of my friends from high school was born to Ecuadorian parents, and even though they've been living in the Bronx for more than 20 years now, her parents still can't speak any English. I understand not knowing a language a few years after coming, but... several decades? Not so much. At least learn some basic English for your own well-being, if not for society's.
Anyway, eh. Don't really have a strong opinion on it. On one hand, you can't just let anybody in; most people who would be immigrating would be poor, and society can only support so many poor people. At the same time, people are going to immigrate, legally or otherwise, regardless of your laws.

None of this matters unless you have a secure border, which we don't, so whether we had a "good" system or not will make little difference is solving the overall problem.
I think I read a report a couple weeks ago about how the number of people immigrating from the southern border has actually decreased in the past several months.
Ill gonna be pull out a huge generalization here.
The more open your border and the more open you are to immigrants, the better your country does, conversely when you close your border up, historically a country does worse.
Such example of this include Rome, China, Japan, France, and maybe even the US.
