Personally against it and would never have one, but I'm for complete legalization on the national level because people are going to do it anyway, and it's idealistic, dumb, and irresponsible to have it illegal and unsafe.

I'd hope you would never have an abortion, what with having a penis and all

I like the way you think. Pretty much agree on all of those stances, especially on abortion.

Portugal legalized drugs nationwide and used the money spent on jails for good rehab programs. Since 2000 drug abuse has been cut in half

well then mention the need for rehabilitation programs. simply legalising drugs in countries with a booming drug trade is only going to exacerbate the issue. also drugs in portugal dont have the same status of alcohol or tobacco. a lot of drugs (marijuana for example) are still banned for personal use and possession of over a fixed small quantity (over 3g of coke/heroin for example) leads to confiscation and hefty fines. i wouldnt even call that legalisation. sending people to rehab and/or fining them instead of throwing them in prison is probably the way 'punishment' to all crimes should be dealt.

    also

Even if there are no criminal penalties, these changes did not legalize drug use in Portugal. Possession has remained prohibited by Portuguese law, and criminal penalties are still applied to drug growers, dealers and traffickers.

i think a functional prison system can be put to use to at least attempt to educate and give training to repeat offenders of mid-level crimes like simple assault, theft, etc.

as for murders and whatnot, do you still think they should just be put to death(i think you said that before, might be wrong)?

what good is isolating prisoners from society and subjecting them to physical and emotional trauma going to do? prison as a form of punishment is so archaic its unbelievable its still accepted in every country.
