I tried to get into Baudelaire but I'm not artsy enough. My favourite french poem that I actually understand well enough is by Victor Hugo, it's about the death of his daughter. http://fr.wikisource.org/wiki/Demain,_d%C3%A8s_l%27aube

How far are you with the tenses and shit, I mean are you at a point where you understand the subjunctive etc.? And did you learn it in high school, or is Spanish all the rave in American high schools?

i took one year of spanish in high school and like every other class didn't really do any work so i didnt pick up any of it. never had prior experience with french, just bought one of those popularly marketed self-teach french books and have been watching some youtube videos.

im okay with tenses i guess. i couldnt write a grammatically correct french sentence of unless it were very simple, but i can understand reading most things if i look up some of the especially foreign vocab. i never really cared about what grammatical stuff is called so dont really know what the subjunctive is.

yeah i dig fleurs du mal. a lot of 19th century french literature and poetry that's famous and well-regarded tends to be boring and unreadable. most of emile zola and victor hugo etc.'s works are a ball ache. baudelaire is an exception. i think a general guide to reading french poetry is if it's romantic poetry, give it a go, if otherwise it'll probably be shit. sully prudhomme is dire.

Well, I open my eyes and I see things. I've seen spirits moving through the walls. I've seen a vortex coming through the wall. I've seen amorphous little balls of light bouncing all around in the front yard through the window. I've seen giant bugs on the floor. I was in a hotel room in Amarillo, Texas, and all I remember is standing on the bed and seeing the whole wall in front of me filled with lights that were [makes popping sound] popping like popcorn out of the wall. Then I'll wake up and I go "Wow, I was standing on my bed and staring at this wall."
