Pokemon Leaf Green: How do I get to Pewter City?

Hi guys, I feel like this is a daft question but Ive been stuck at the very begingin of the game for days now. I have got my badge from Brock and fought all the traininers in Varidian forest but just cant seem to find the route past. There doesnt seem to be any online maps avalable like other games Ive played in the past? Im playing on a ds if that makes any difference?

And in case anyone is going to tell me look at a walkthrough ive been looking on them and they seem to glance over the how to get to part and just assume theres a clear path (and unfortunatly i just can't seem to find it)

Unless I am mistaken, you just go on the route east of Pewter City after you beat Brock as there isn't a guy over there.

You need rather desperate so Ill bring up a map:



The right middle side next to the sign, go there.
