Any reservations about moving to the land of the free?
Well, I open my eyes and I see things. I've seen spirits moving through the walls. I've seen a vortex coming through the wall. I've seen amorphous little balls of light bouncing all around in the front yard through the window. I've seen giant bugs on the floor. I was in a hotel room in Amarillo, Texas, and all I remember is standing on the bed and seeing the whole wall in front of me filled with lights that were [makes popping sound] popping like popcorn out of the wall. Then I'll wake up and I go "Wow, I was standing on my bed and staring at this wall."

Dunno yet, still have one more school year left before it's university time. I'll get one of the two big ones though, I'm definitely enough for what they want, but whether I'm enough for what I want remains to be seen.

it's better than taking a bunch of classes for the rest of your life that you don't care about just to get through it. the british education system at least advocates specialisation

That's true I guess and it feels pretty selfish of myself to think this way about my privileged future, especially after everything I saw in India but still, fuck it. Every time I walk into a room I legitimately believe I'm the best individual in it. All I want to do is medicine but it is the most difficult course in Ireland to do and I can't do it outside of Ireland because 1) the government here pays for college tuition whilst my family don't have enough money to finance me doing what Rayne is doing and 2) I have a life here that I love. Unless I somehow turn into a genius overnight though, I don't know how I'm gonna get in there. On optimistic days I just say 'okay, get a mad good LC and an above average HPAT and you're sorted.' Other days I just think the only way I can do it is if I do science for four years and then do a graduate medicine course, which means I'll be spending roughly a decade in university, paying for tuition fees (the government won't pay for post-graduates) and just pretty much losing out on a portion of my life.

And it's ridiculous, really. Because whatever I choose to do -- I'm smart enough to choose something solid, like law, economics, science, political science etc.. -- I'm going to get a job at and I'm going to do brilliantly in, just because I'm driven to do better than everyone else. And is that so bad, knowing I'm going to be good enough at something to live a comfortable life economically? In my case, yes, and I hate myself for it.

well you'd have to be insane to go to an english university or an american university, and continental europe obviously has cultural/language barriers, so ireland is probably the best place for you to study...

i've not even started university yet but i'm probably going to study till post-grad level. i've sort of decided I'm going to live really frugally during under-grad level, almost as some sort of ascetic, in order to have enough money to go post-grad
