I don't understand why zeppelins and other airships aren't more common. Sure, they sacrifice some speed, but they're usually a lot more luxurious.

They're probably more fuel efficient than airplanes as well.

Zeppelins would be a pretty terrible idea in the 21st century. 1) We're running out of helium, so it would be a short run for the ol' airship. Hydrogen would be out of the question 2) There's alot of drag involved, which makes it terribly inefficient 3) It's size to passenger ratio is incredibly awful. For example, a 77,692 square foot zeppelin can carry twelve passengers

if they would use hydrogen gas tanks in planes, maybe they'd be more fuel efficient and safer to land.

See the issue is in getting the hydrogen, which requires energy use in the first place, so its not that amazing net wise if you actually combust it for transport.

i mean internal hydrogen systems inside the craft to make it lighter. it would decrease the amount of energy needed to move it in our atmosphere, and it would be a softer landing. not to mention the internalization making open flame exposure impossible.

I'm sure this could be worked on. If more attention was put towards airships, I'm sure we could improve everything about them. Ever.

why would a businessman invest in a zeppelin over a plane and why would a passenger choose a zeppelin over a plane

We're only running out of the helium we collected years ago (read: decades). There's still plenty of helium in the world to farm and I seriously doubt we are truly running out.

thorium does not decay into hydrogen and also has a half life of 14 billion years

"I'll go," said Chagataev. "But what will I do there? Build socialism?"
    "What else?" said the secretary.
