Default Solly, explain something to me...

Why do you buy milk in bags in Canada? Storing a liquid in a plastic bag just seems... funny.

Where I come from in Canada (Alberta), we don't actually have milk in bags. However if you go to some of the older provinces (especially the maritimes like newfoundland/labrador and nova scotia) you'll likely find a section of the grocery store where you can buy bagged milk. Bagged milk is slightly cheaper than milk in cartons because it requires less packaging. You actually don't pour the milk from the bag itself, you put the bag in a reusable plastic pitcher, and pour from there. Since the plastic bag uses up much less plastic than a milk jug, it's actually more eco-friendly. As well, you can wash out the bag afterwards and use it as a sandwich bag.

Another interesting customs difference between Canada and the US is that in Canada, you always take off your shoes when you enter another person's house (unless it's some kind of big party and it's the middle of the summer, in which case it's about half and half), which is why Canadian houses are always so much cleaner.

SOURCE: I've eaten a sandwich from a reused milk bag before.

Plenty of Americans take off their shoes.
