The UK is a much weaker union than the USA
I could easily see the UK breaking up if it really wanted to. The states are more glued together.
We have Scottish independence, Welsh independence, Cornish independence, Irish independence, we have a Scottish, Welsh and Irish nationalist party in power which all want to quietly secede from the UK. Cornwall is also a county with its own Gallic language and thus an independence movement. We have a very weak union, at least in the 21st century with uninspiring royals and no major wars

If Wales in particular became an independent country away from the UK I'd be very, very surprised if they didn't crash and burn within five years.

It's not the "northern tip", it has a population of 2 million and a huge metropolitan area, unlike Alaska. It's that way for political reasons that date back hundreds of years, the "Orange Lodge" designating the six counties that make up Ulster as the most strongly Protestant.
My bad, Juneau has a humongous population of 30,000.
Also, Sinn Fein want Northern Ireland and Ireland to be united and are extremely popular
There are more people in Alaska than Wyoming.
