two options with "fair" tax:
raise taxes on the poor and working class to unpayable levels so they're basically starving -- while raising taxes on the middle class to the point their disposable income is decimated and the economy tanks
lower taxes on the rich to the same level the poor and middle class are able to sustainably pay, this lowering government funding tremendously and making the US' public infrastructure even MORE third-world than it already is.

Fair tax would work if everyone had the same income.
That's not what the Fair Tax is at all. It's actually a progressive VAT tax. At the start of every month, every person in America gets a 200 dollar prebate, which is the poverty line. That way people below the poverty line can spend that money on food and other necessities so in a sense they aren't paying any taxes they can't afford. Then, every good sold except for like food has a 27% federal sales tax, so that way everyone pays and there's no way to get out of it.
couldn't that system be easily cheated by stockpiling all your money and then buying goods outside the US? Then the only people who could afford to go outside the US to go shopping (the rich) wouldn't pay any taxes while everyone else would.

A sales tax hurts lower income individuals most, as the more money you make the lower the percentage of your wealth is spent on goods.
the proposed "fair tax" would actually be a benefit for people making 15k a year or less. for almost everyone else they would pay more in tax, except for people making over 200k who would pay considerably less. i guess thats what makes it "fair."
The only reason It helps people with that low income is because they add an extra non-taxable income. Otherwise it would be absolutely horrible for people under the poverty line.
