the issue is whether someone should be able to be held legally culpable for something like this. it is absurd to imagine they should. if safety was truly the issue they could assign a 24-hour police watch outside his house.
this "crime" of his had no victims. i hear people supporting it saying he should have been tried for "harassment" or whatever of the family. which is absurd. he did not explicitly send these statements to the family, he made no effort to make sure they in particular heard them and could not help but hear them. so it is no any sort of "harassment," there are no victims, and it is no crime.

I also never once said Paedophiles should be arrested for their thoughts. He's serving 12 weeks in a soft prison. That's nothing. The public gets to have their sense of justice, he's out of harms way for a few weeks and everyone forgets about it. He was also charged with Perverting the course of Justice. None of us have seen said facebook posts, but for him to be charged over that one can deduct that he had posted something that could have been interpreted as evidence in the ongoing case which obviously was his idea of a joke.

People have all kinds of fetishes that they can't control, so as long as they don't act upon their fantasy there is nothing wrong. Saying it is morally wrong to think about having sex with kids is stupid, as you can't really control your own thoughts. Even writing stories or drawing images of it doesn't matter because no one is negatively effected. Looking at actual child porn on the other hand is wrong because you may not actually be harming children, you are still supporting those who do.
i want to say that i don't mind king, but i also remember that it was specifically just thinking about it was something king thought should be illegal because it could be acted upon. the other side was as long as somebody doesn't act on it then it's ok. you can't really judge whether somebody is going to or not so you should only act on those who do, not those who simply have that attraction but don't act on it in any bad way.
king sometimes when you say things like this it is somewhat mind boggling. no one said it wasn't a bad thing to do. not every "bad thing to do" should be a crime punishable by jail time.

It doesn't really effect job opportunities. In some cases you don't even need to make them aware of any committed crimes and thanks to equal opportunity laws most places HAVE to take you on if you've served time because they will be classed as discriminating you by not giving you the job on the grounds that you have a record.
In fact thanks to the college, A-Level, GNVQ, BTEC and National Diploma level qualifications you can gain freely in prison, alongside a glowing record of conduct whilst in there, some ex cons are incredibly desirable in the work place. My friend Jarvis came out 14 months into a 3 year sentence for dealing Ketamine and because of his good behaviour and the fact he gained several qualifications whilst there he managed to land a decent job with a building firm and is on more than I am a year. England isn't like America when it comes to jail. Rape and murder in jail here is incredibly rare and the main emphasis is on rehabilitation as opposed to long term punishment/free labour.
And Justin I said that desires to rape a child shouldn't be allowed, not the act of sexual attraction to a child (which is wrong anyway imo) I never said anyone should be incarcerated over their sexual urges but that they should be offered free and confidential help with them instead.
