My brain can't process this question from a single persPective. Every time I try, half a dozen "what if" scenarios pop up. Who has the authority to sentence the execution? What manner of execution is it? Is the sentencee guaranteed to wreak more havoc if they're allowed to live? Is it being done to send a message? And so on...
I live. I love. I kill. I catch Pokemons. I am content.
People will always want Justice. And as much as I hate the police and dislike a lot of law in general, it's a necessity to have some sense of order. Prison isn't an effective punishment, nor is it good at rehabilitating people. Harsher penalties like Death and losing a hand may seem cruel, but in the long run they may have a good deal of merit. If we get TOO wishy washy, touchy feely, politically correct....well. I think Demolition Man is a good example of what can happen in a 'utopia'.

There is absolutely no evidence to indicate that the death penalty actually dissuades crime. The US jails and executes more people than any other country on the planet.
This is a ridiculous statement Rayne. We live in an age where we have perceived rights and wrongs. We're not animals, the large bulk of us have self control. If we deliberately harm others then we should expect to be somehow harmed back.
the idea of doing something ineffectual in the name of "justice" is stupid. so at the least the justice SYSTEM of many countries is stupid. the only "just" response to a crime is an action that has the best chance of keeping it from happening again, or more often.
Deterrence is best achieved through a similar act or a punishment that reflects the magnitude of the act. Incarceration for a set amount of time is a fine punishment for burglary but for violent assault and sexual assault I think the punishment should be more severe. Violent assault should carry some kind of physical repaicuccion and sexual assault should carry some kind of mental torture.
