Default I Wouldn't Say I Am Fashion Inept

But I think I should hire a fashion consultant or a "shop buddy" when I get my full time job. My profession is a very niche market when it comes to dress ware and I have to balance on a delicate line. I need to appear authoritative without seeming straight-laced, old-fashioned, or worse like I am trying to be fashionable. (When I become I college professor I don't give a shit how my students think about how I dress.) That being said I have read articles and such on the matter and I think I should just pay some douche bag on craigslist to shop with me and spend 300-400 on a 2 week cycle wardrobe. Thoughts?

I want the random person know what they are in for before I befriend them for this one task. I can't ask someone I know because they would be too biased. I need a critical perspective on my body type and looks and mesh them into a wardrobe.

I really have to get much more fashionable in time for university.
Well, I open my eyes and I see things. I've seen spirits moving through the walls. I've seen a vortex coming through the wall. I've seen amorphous little balls of light bouncing all around in the front yard through the window. I've seen giant bugs on the floor. I was in a hotel room in Amarillo, Texas, and all I remember is standing on the bed and seeing the whole wall in front of me filled with lights that were [makes popping sound] popping like popcorn out of the wall. Then I'll wake up and I go "Wow, I was standing on my bed and staring at this wall."

certain shades combine to create a certain mood that you would like to convey with your attire, i.e. navy/greyish colours create a feeling of calm, easy-goingness, laid-back professionality, etc.

as a gay man, i'd like to take offense to the stereotype that we all dress good and love to shop. i dress terribly, maybe even worse than straight men, thank you very much.

i actually know how to dress (as a gay man). i could help you out.
first, you need clothes that complement your physique, pretty much wear clothes that's tight enough to show your body, but loose enough to make people still wonder. the colors you choose should be balanced with your skin tone.

you can express your personality through fashion. you wear the clothes, not have the clothes wear you.

and kirby, just because you're fat doesn't mean you can't look good.

I don't really see why I should have to look good.

because that's the first thing anyone will notice and will treat you that way. obtaining a job or on a social level. if you ever desire to have a wife or girlfriend, they will judge by how you look. if not a female, gay men are the most judgmental.

and it isn't to just show off, it's a way to represent oneself that you know how to take care of yourself and know how to manage your money.
if you don't dress well you may lose opportunities based on how you look. most people tend to avoid slobs because they appear irresponsible.
in all honesty, when seeking for help at stores, you look for an employee. i'm certain that you look for a visually appealing person over another. (visually appealing doesn't mean sexual attraction, but someone who appears to have more knowledge in what you're seeking).
