put simply i think this is what every generation thinks, but i think people underestimate the potential for continuity of certain social forces that are perceived to be archaic in light of their mild opposition.

every generation thinks religion will die off, i'm sure they thought that in the 70s. but what alternative do we have? now we notice that a lot of people who were young in the 70s are now avid churchgoers. religion is the greatest source of uniting communities, and without it we're left with other ways to unify communities and establish pervasive iconographies that are more controversial, like crime. so i think that when we are in our 50s, i don't think we'll necessarily turn to religion but we'll become the elderly people we hate at the moment - people worshipping a disproven god much to the chagrin of youth, etc.

i hope anything i am saying makes sense

Honestly, it's just too much hassle for someone not to fire nukes in this day and age. We've been a VERY LONG TIME without pushing ourselves into a terrible and pointless war.

Look back, this is the comment which pushed me over the edge onto the road of transitioning.

Its really bizarre in hindsight, but hey, thanks Rayne.

That's not how mutually assured destruction is supposed to work.
Well, I open my eyes and I see things. I've seen spirits moving through the walls. I've seen a vortex coming through the wall. I've seen amorphous little balls of light bouncing all around in the front yard through the window. I've seen giant bugs on the floor. I was in a hotel room in Amarillo, Texas, and all I remember is standing on the bed and seeing the whole wall in front of me filled with lights that were [makes popping sound] popping like popcorn out of the wall. Then I'll wake up and I go "Wow, I was standing on my bed and staring at this wall."

When I first encountered Rayne, I developed a rather distinct first impression of his character. I still remember it now because of how strange it was - but I knew it was so out there that it couldn't be wrong, as most first impressions usually are. I could tell that someday, somewhere down the line, Rayne would be to blame for someone's sex change. It all makes sense now.
