put simply i think this is what every generation thinks, but i think people underestimate the potential for continuity of certain social forces that are perceived to be archaic in light of their mild opposition.
every generation thinks religion will die off, i'm sure they thought that in the 70s. but what alternative do we have? now we notice that a lot of people who were young in the 70s are now avid churchgoers. religion is the greatest source of uniting communities, and without it we're left with other ways to unify communities and establish pervasive iconographies that are more controversial, like crime. so i think that when we are in our 50s, i don't think we'll necessarily turn to religion but we'll become the elderly people we hate at the moment - people worshipping a disproven god much to the chagrin of youth, etc.
i hope anything i am saying makes sense
Honestly, it's just too much hassle for someone not to fire nukes in this day and age. We've been a VERY LONG TIME without pushing ourselves into a terrible and pointless war.
Wishful thinking much?
